According to law enforcement officials, new developments are expected to come forth on Tuesday regarding the shooting that involves Ryan Cochran, a Kannapolis, North Carolina, firefighter. On April 30, 2015, Cochran was involved in a verbal argument with David Robert Pittarelli Jr., resulting in his death. Concord Interim Police Chief Merl Hamilton stated that a press conference will be held at 11:00 a.m.
On April 30, gunshots were reported near South Union Street at around 9:30 p.m. On arrival, they found Pittarelli lying dead on the ground. A neighbor told reporters that they heard a scream followed by gunshots. Authorities stated that two cars with multiple people in them were all involved in the shooting.
According to police, Cochran and his girlfriend were driving home when a vehicle appeared to be following them for several miles. Cochran then stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Charing Lane and Plott Drive. Afterwards, it was reported that he shot Pittarelli after a physical altercation.
Reports from the Concord police say that the two men in the incident did not seem to know each other. Currently, Cochran is on suspension with pay while the case is being reviewed.
