It has been reported that the President of the United States, Barack Obama, has been made an offer he would not be able to refuse. The offer has been made by a lawyer in Nairobi, Kenya, to wed President Obama’s daughter. It may sound hilarious, but the lawyer has offered livestock like cows and sheep in exchange for the hand of 16-year-old Malia Obama. The news about the offer was reported Tuesday, May 26.
The Kenyan lawyer, identified as Felix Kiprono, said that it is his dream to marry President Obama’s first daughter. He went on to say that he would be willing to pay 70 sheep, 30 goats, and 50 cows to President Obama for fulfilling his dream. Kiprono, in an interview, said that he got inclined towards Malia back in 2008. Over the years, he said that he has made up his mind, and is very interested in marrying her. It must be remembered, that she was only 10-years-old, when her father ran for office for the first time.
Kiprono shared in the interview that as a matter of fact, he had not dated any girl since then. He also promised to be completely faithful to Obama’s daughter. The lawyer said that he had consulted with his own family about his decision, and they have no problems or objections regarding his decision. He mentioned that the members of his family have also agreed to help him raise the earlier mentioned bride price.
Kiprono urged Obama to bring his daughter along with him, during his first presidential visit to Kenya. The President is scheduled to visit Kenya in July 2015. Kiprono also declared that he intended to put his offer of marrying Obama’s daughter during his visit. He also tried to invoke old connections by reminding that Kenya is the country of birth for President Obama’s father.
Kiprono said that he is presently drafting a letter to President Obama, asking his daughter’s hand in marriage. He said that he will be pleading with Obama to accept the bride price, and agree to marry off his daughter to him. He would be handing over the letter at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, and hopes that the officials at the embassy will hand over the letter to the President. Thus, President Obama, has been made an offer he would not be able to refuse.
A number of relatives of the U.S. President still live in Kogelo, which is in the western part of Kenya. This also includes his 90-year-old grandmother. When asked about the fact that he might be considered a gold-digger, Kiprono quickly dismissed the notion. He confessed that his love is real, and he is not after the family’s wealth, and reputation. He said that he has planned everything from his proposal to the wedding. He shared that he will be making the proposal on a hill-top which is close to his rural village. The wedding would then take place which will exclude champagne, and instead ‘mursik’, the traditional sour milk will be offered.
Kiprono said that he will teach young Obama how to cook maize porridge (locally called ugali), prepare mursik like all other Kalenjin women, and how to milk a cow. He dreams of living a simple life that he and young Obama would lead as a married couple. The lawyer’s age has not been revealed yet as he made President Obama an offer he would not be able to refuse, according to Kiprono. It must be clarified here, that the line taken from the epic movie trilogy, Godfather is just a tongue-in-cheek way of putting it, for explaining the scenario. It must not be taken literally by any reader.
