A refugee who had only been in the United States for nine days is said to have tried to rape a woman, leading to his arrest in Virginia. Tchalim Koboya Lidawo, from Togo, has since been charged with two counts of attempted rape and one count of forcible abduction. He pleaded no contest to the charges, and was subsequently sentenced to 10 year in prison as a result of his crime.
The crime happened back on December 4, 2014, but the man was just recently sentenced on May 8. The woman whom he assaulted is said to have lived in the same apartment complex with him near Leesburg. After watching his victim take out her trash, the refugee says he then attacked her at the dumpster and dragged her into the woods.
It was due to a passerby that the woman’s screams for help were heard, and the approaching of another individual caused Lidawo to run away, further into the woods. He was subsequently located and arrested, based off the description the good Samaritan provided authorities.
