San Diego Officer Injured During Officer-Involved Shooting

San Diego

According to the San Diego Police Department, a female officer was shot in the neck Sunday morning during an officer-involved shooting nearby Highway 163 at Health Center Drive. The area between Linda Vista Road and Berger Avenue has been closed off by police.

Route 163 was shut down at Mesa College Drive during official investigations, but the highway has already been reopened, leaving only the Mesa College Drive ramp closed. Mary Birch Hospital as well as Sharp Hospital were on lockdown, but Sharp Hospital reported the lockdown has been lifted.

The neighbors that live in the area reported gunshots being heard outside of their homes, as well as being able to see the officer that had been shot, lying on the ground. After the officer was shot, members of the SWAT team, firefighters and paramedics rushed onto the scene.

The officer was taken to Sharp Hospital with the extent of her injuries unknown. Chief of police Shelly Zimmerman has been seen walking into the hospital and reports have been made that she will be holding a press conference shortly. At this time, a suspect, who has been shot, is believed to be dead.
