The 25 year old vocalist’s love for feline friends became apparent when she appeared in the 2014 Diet Coke advert surrounded by the fluffy companions; but it is her two Scottish Fold cats, Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson, who have hold of Taylor Swift’s heart. She may be able to travel with them around the US, but when journeying overseas for her 1989 World Tour, Taylor is forced to sacrifice their company for the sake of her musical career.
Taylor Swift’s love of cats has not gone unnoticed amidst fellow musicians. This was apparent when singer songwriter Ed Sheeran affectionately teased the songstress’ love of crafts and cats by saying, ‘She’s a sort of middle-aged woman trapped in a 24-year-old’s body. She hangs out with her cat and sews things’. It is reported that the starlet embroidered a cushion for her pal Sheeran, with Drake’s lyrics, ‘started from the bottom now we here,’ as the main focal point, ‘She’s very crafty,’ Sheeran said.
Speaking to BBC Radio One host Nick Grimshaw, Taylor, who is currently in the UK for the Radio One Big Weekend show, said that she did not find being an international superstar all that difficult. Her success, she said, has meant that her tour schedule isn’t as harrowing as it was when she was first impressing audiences with her incredible voice,
‘I’d go on tour for three months and I was gone for three months,’ she said, ‘ten years in and I thank God that we get to play bigger shows so that I don’t have to play as many’.
After explaining how larger venues have allowed her the occasional day off and an opportunity to rest and visit home, she went on to express the difficulty she has in leaving behind her feline friends, ‘I have to leave the cats behind when I leave the country, which is the hardest part’.
Miss. Swift, who appeared on Forbes’ Most Powerful Women list this week, kicked off her ‘1989’ album tour on May 6th at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. The 55,000 strong audience were met with hit song ‘Welcome To New York’ and reveled in the performances of all the tracks on the 1989 album, as well as crowd favourites ‘New Romantics’ and ‘You Are In Love’.
The US leg of the tour began at the CenturyLink Center in Louisiana on May 20th to a sell out crowd and outstanding reviews, with the spectacle being cited as this summer’s biggest concert. The tour, including support act Australian singer Vance Joy who has wowed Northern America alongside Swift, will be spending June in the UK and Ireland. Swift may have sacrificed quality time with her cats this summer, but it appears she has not sacrificed a quality performance for her fans.
