The 2015 CMT Music Awards show was broadcast live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday, June 10, and the show was full of both highlights and winners graciously accepting their awards. The two co-hosts were Brittany Snow and Erin Andrews, and all of the winners of the awards were voted upon by country music fans. Performers during the awards show included Florida Georgia Line, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, the Zac Brown Band, and Lady Antebellum, and even Joe Dirt and Billy Ray Cyrus made appearances.
The 2015 CMT Music Awards show began with Lady Antebellum taking the stage, singing Long Stretch Of Love. They did a musical collaboration with Zedd, of his song Beautiful Tonight, complete with a laser light show. Some people in the audience seemed to enjoy it, while others looked like the were not all that impressed. They did get a lot of enthusiastic applause as they finished singing, however.
Erin Andrews and Brittany Snow were pretty good hosts. They mentioned that Carrie Underwood was the person who had received the most nominations this year, at five. An all-female a cappella group, the Belmont Bellas, sang a version of Girl Crush with the words changed to “Carrie crush.”
The hosts presented the first 2015 CMT Music Awards show award of the night, for Best Collaborative Video. The award was won by Miranda Lambert with Carrie Underwood for the video Somethin’ Bad, and Carrie Underwood accepted the award.
Then, Darius Rucker was the next performer on the 2015 CMT Music Awards show. He sang his hit song, Home Grown Honey. He did a great job, and the females in the outdoor venue he played at seemed to really like the guitar player.
Back from a break, the hosts of the 2015 CMT Music Awards show took a look at all of the nominees for the Video of the Year. Then, they introduced two of the male actors from Nashville, the T.V. series, Chris Carmack and Charles Esten. It will be coming back for a fourth season. The actors introduced Reba McEntire, who has not been on the CMT Awards show for ten years. She sang Going Out Like That.
Cassadee Pope and Nick Fradiani, both past winners of The Voice, then presented the 2015 CMT Music Awards show award for Breakthrough Video of the Year. The award went to Sam Hunt for his video, Leave the Light On.
Erin Andrews introduced the winning jockey who rode American Pharaoh in the Belmont Stakes, Victor Espinoza. He introduced the next presenter, comedian Ron White. White introduced Jason Aldean, who sang Tonight Looks Good On You.
Then, presenters Rumer Willis and Noah Galloway from the last season of Dancing With the Stars presented the 2015 CMT Music Awards show award for Duo Video of the Year. It was won by Florida Georgia Line for their video, Dirt.
After that, on the 2015 CMT Music Awards show, Chris Janson sang his latest hit, Buy Me a Boat. As he sang, a voice-over announced upcoming performers and then the 2015 CMT Music Awards show went to yet another commercial break.
Following another break, Aloe Blacc introduced Eric Church singing Like a Wrecking Ball — no, not the Miley Cyrus song, though it has a somewhat similar title. Then, Cole Swindell introduced Florida Georgia Line, singing Anything Goes.
Florida Georgia Line, like Darius Rucker, performed outside. They put on a terrific performance on the 2015 CMT Music Awards show, one of the highlights by a duo that also was one of the winners of awards on the show. They had the females in the audience cheering and screaming for them.
Back inside the Bridgestone Arena on the 2015 CMT Music Awards show, Luke Bryan sang Kick the Dust Up. He had the arena rocking.
Next up on the show, Little Big Town presented the 2015 CMT Music Awards show award for Female Video of the Year. The award went to Carrie Underwood, for her video Something in the Water.
Then, Sara Evans and Jana Kramer introduced Jake Owen, who sang Real Life. There was some pretty cool choreography involving his back-up dancers playing with inflatable pool toys. Kelsea Ballerini sang Love Me Like You Mean It right after Jake’s performance.
Kellie Pickler and Billy Ray Cyrus then presented the 2015 CMT Music Awards show award for CMT Performance of the Year. It was won by Bob Seger and Jason Aldean for Turn the Page. They sang it on CMT Crossroads. Aldean accepted the award and said that getting the chance to perform the song with Bob Seger onstage “was a dream come true.”
From the NFL, the Defensive Player of the Year, J.J. Watts, introduced the Zac Brown Band. They performed the song Homegrown. Their performance was another highlight of the 2015 CMT Music Awards show, though they were not one of the winners.
After yet another break, Norman Reedus, of The Walking Dead, presented the next 2015 CMT Music Awards show award, for Group Video of the Year. It was won by Lady Antebellum for Bartender.
Then, Dave Spade, complete with an outrageously long mullet and dressed up like his Joe Dirt character, came onto the stage. He said “I’ve been called the trailer trash version of this guy.”
He was talking about Keith Urban, who was the next musical artist to perform. Urban sang his latest single, John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16. It sounded great, and it is also probably the only song title ever to have the word “John” in it three times.
After Urban finished, the female duo, Maddie & Tae, sang Girl In A Country Song. Then, the 2015 CMT Music Awards show headed to another commercial break.
Following the break, the two hosts were in a clip about supposedly “almost not making the show.” They joked about the movie Pitch Perfect 2. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steven Tyler were in the clip. Tyler was singing Love Is Your Name while driving a car with Alan Jackson in the backseat.
Arnold was an Uber driver in the clip and Tom Arnold was in the backseat with Brittany Snow and Erin Andrews, trying to make it to the 2015 CMT Music Awards show. Hunter Hayes, Rick Springfield were also in the video. Arnold said “I love Jessie’s Girl.” Justin Bieber was in the clip, a passenger in a car driven by actor and talk show host, James Cordon.
After that, Nikki Reed presented the 2015 CMT Music Awards show for Male Video of the Year. The Buckle was won by Luke Bryan for the video Play It Again.
Jenna Dewan Tatum introduced Sam Hunt, who performed next, singing House Party. He KILLED this song, getting the audience pumped up. The women in the arena cheered and screamed as he sang.
Brett Eldridge and Thomas Rhett introduced Kenny Chesney. Chesney sang his big hit, American Kids. They audience sang along with him, in yet another highlight of the show.
The next performer on the 2015 CMT Music Awards show was Carrie Underwood. She sang Little Toy Guns. She was INCREDIBLE!
Her performance was followed by A Thousand Horses singing their Number One hit, Smoke. They sang the 2015 CMT Music Awards show to its next commercial break.
Finally, it was time on the 2015 CMT Music Awards show for the biggest award of the evening to be presented. Tom Arnold and Arnold Schwarzenegger presented the award for Video of the Year. The winner of the award was…Carrie Underwood, for the video Something in the Water, making her the biggest winner of the night, in an awards show filled with amazing performances and entertaining highlights.
