Escaped killers that had been on the run for two weeks were surrounded in a perimeter tonight near Allegany County. Authorities believe that although the killers have not yet been arrested, they will be found in a matter of time. Over 300 officers have been on the hunt for these convicted killers who broke out of a maximum-security prison. Richard Matt and David Sweat escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility and have traveled almost 359 miles to the Pennsylvania state line.
Authorities had enlisted the help of television viewers for tips about any sightings of the escaped killers with the hope that they would be caught before they could hurt anybody again. Several sighting reports helped authorities set a perimeter and allegedly surround these convicted killers. Police have responded with checkpoints along I-86. Although there are skeptics that the killers will be caught in Friendship, New York, authorities continue the search. Because America is on high alert for these two escaped killers, and authorities can easily narrow a likely perimeter, it is only a matter of time before they get surrounded and caught. The United States Marshall Service has listed Matt and Sweat on the 15 Most Wanted Fugitive List and is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the capture of these killers. The state of New York has set a $50,000 reward for information that ends the manhunt – and $100,000 if both suspects are caught.
