Jada Pinkett Smith has shown how confident she is in her marriage to superstar showman Will Smith in a candid interview about their love life with Howard Stern. Adding speculation to the rumors that the celebrity couple has an open relationship, the Gotham actress, aged 43, admitted she knows her husband well enough to know he is going to be attracted to other women. In the interview on Sirius XM, the actress discussed how she openly talks to her partner of 17 years about who they may have crushes on, saying, “Just because a man is attracted to another woman does not mean he does not love you.” She added, somewhat profoundly, that for her husband to be able to appreciate her beauty, he needs to be able to see the beauty in others.
Smith and partner Will met in 1995 when she auditioned to appear as his girlfriend in the hit show, Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Although she was rejected for the role, she was not rejected by Will, and two years later, the pair were married. Now with two teenage children, Jaden and Willow, and a stepson 22-year-old Trey from Will’s previous relationship, Smith is able to admit that the couple married too young and enthusiastically advised her own children not to follow suit. Acknowledging that many celebrity marriages fail under the spotlight, the actress put their longevity down to Will being ‘a gangster partner’. Back in February 2015, the Men In Black actor told reporters that his marriage has struggled under the weight of heavy work commitments and family responsibilities, explaining that when one of them is in ‘work mode’, the other is often in ‘chill mode’. Finding the balance can be difficult, but the couple seems to be in agreement that trust is paramount in maintaining a high profile relationship like theirs. Talking to Stern, she said, “Will is a man of integrity. He’s got all the trust in the world.” After pointing out to the radio show host that in Hollywood she would soon find out if her husband had been up to anything untoward, she expressed her confidence in her marriage and husband by stating that “I am not his watcher…if Will can look himself in the mirror and be OK, I’m good.”
Fans of the superstar couple may already be aware that the Hollywood rumor mill recently put Will in a clinch with his Focus and Suicide Squad co-star, 24-year-old Margot Robbie. Photographs emerged of the two snuggled up together and posing provocatively in a photo booth, fueling rumors that the outwardly successful marriage is actually on the rocks and Jada has been traded in for a younger model.
Robbie denied all allegations and stated that her and Will were “just goofing around,” a sentiment echoed by Will, aged 46, when he said in an interview earlier this year, “You don’t fish off the company pier!” Will should be hoping Jada feels the same, as she recently finished filming Magic Mike XXL with a male cast that spent most of their time in a state of undress.
Howard Stern was clearly impressed by Smith’s candid and rational approach to love, marriage, and family life as one of Hollywood’s most prominent couples. As gossip columns claim the Pinkett-Smith marriage may be in trouble and divorce is in the cards, others can argue that the obvious trust and commitment between the two will surely keep them together for another twenty years and beyond.
