Jennifer Lopez’s famous booty has caused the superstar entertainer to get sued after a concert in Morocco. The lawsuit was slapped on Lopez, 45, by a Moroccan education welfare group who claim that Moroccan officials did not know what they were getting into when they chose to show J.Lo’s booty-licious performance on national television. Claiming Lopez and her promoter “disturbed public order and tarnished women’s honor and respect”, the lawsuit carries a penalty of one to two years in prison if the singer is found guilty.
Criticized for being “too sexy,” Lopez took to the stage in a plunging white leotard and knee-high boots. The concert, which took place at Mawazine World Rhythms International Music Festival on Friday June 5, was packed to the brim with J.Lo’s usual sensual dance moves and glitzy revealing outfits, which did not seem to disappoint the 160,000 strong audience. However, members of the Moroccan government and political party, the Justice and Development Party, alleged that the show was a “breach of public decency.” They have called for the resignation of The Minister for Communications, Mustapha Khalfi, who was responsible for the airing of the concert along with broadcasting network 2M Public TV. Khalfi has since said that Lopez’s performance was unacceptable and breached Moroccan broadcasting law.
Morocco is a predominantly Muslim country with strict regulations regarding the exposure and treatment of women, so it is no surprise that Lopez shaking her famous booty in public has caused her to get sued. Critics could argue that the mother of two and her entourage should have been aware of the regulations and code of conduct expected from them, considering the singer has played in countless countries during her prolific career. Fans, however, are quick to point out that the stunning superstar was more than accommodating when she performed in the Islamic countries of Malaysia and Indonesia in 2012. Project manager and promoter for her show in Jakarta, Dyandra Promosindo, said at the time that the songstress would have to “cover up a little bit,” adding that Indonesian officials had requested women’s cleavages and men’s chests must remain covered and that erotic dance moves that simulated “making love” would have to be changed to something more family friendly. Lopez obliged to the request and ensured herself and her backup dancers were wearing more modest clothing.
J.Lo is known for making headlines because of her sex appeal and routinely flaunts her voluptuous booty in revealing dresses by some of the world’s top designers, but she surprised onlookers at the Tony Awards last night, Sunday June 7, by dressing more demurely for the famous theater awards. Wearing a floor length, navy Valentino couture gown with star-shaped gold embellishments, the multi-talented performer was a flawless example of class and elegance. Sporting a coiffed curled under bob, she was a far cry from the “threat to the moral fabric of society” that she is being brandished as in North African media this weekend.
Lopez’s performance at the International Music Festival was her first in the North African nation and it is unlikely that she will be asked to perform there again, now that her famous booty is getting the superstar sued. Performances by other artists at the 10 day festival included Sting, Maroon 5, Usher and Pharrell Williams. Luckily the Moroccan lawsuit should not hinder the star’s career too much, as she has just announced a residency in Las Vegas, a city that will surely not reprimand her for revealing outfits and sultry dancing.
