‘The Runner’ Stars Nicolas Cage as Strong Congressman Who Falls Into Scandal

The Runner

To be released on August 7, 2015, The Runner stars Nicolas Cage as a strong congressman who falls into scandal. The film also stars Connie Nielson and Peter Fonda. The movie was written, directed and produced by Austin Stark. Stark has produced several other films including Infinitely Polar Bear, a Sundance hit. Colin Pryce, Cage’s character, portrays a strong-willed politician that cares about his constituents; however, his career is destroyed when he is the subject of a sex scandal. The film rallies around the environmental damage of the 2010 British Petroleum (BP) oil spill in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The official trailer number one (available on YouTube) ends with “Great men, the men who build legacies, they aren’t always decent”. Nielson plays Cage’s wife, Deborah Pryce. His father, Rayne Pryce, is played by Fonda. In the trailer, these characters deal with the oil disaster and the aftermath of the sex scandal. Colin Price is the recipient of criticism and a face slap from Kate Haber, played by Sarah Paulson. Rayne Price counsels Colin with, “you don’t have to be the hero. You just have to make it look good”. The young woman, Lucy Hall, with whom Price has the scandalous affair with performed by Ciera Payton.

The Runner‘s main actor Cage “is known for his edgy, intense personality both on and off stage” according to Biography. His earliest film was a comedy. Cage was in the 1982 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He is an Academy Award winner for his performance in 1995’s Leaving Las Vegas. He has also received a Gold Glove award for Best Actor. The Runner starring Cage as a strong congressman who falls into scandal also contains scenes his character portrays his strong personality. Tribute.ca’s biography of Nielson states she was born in Denmark, and began performing at age 15. She performed with her mother in local productions. In the 1990’s, she came to the United States to work. Her first movie, Voyage was a television movie. Fonda began his career on stage. Tammy and the Doctor was his first movie role, taking place in 1963. He received an Academy Award nomination for best screenplay in Easy Rider. He portrayed Watt ‘Captain America’ Earp in the 1969 movie he “produced and starred in” according to Biography.

An Alchemy Film, The Runner is rated R. This rating is based on the adult theme of the movie. According to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), ratings are determined by a panel of Classification and Ratings Administration (CARA) members. They include administrative staff, voters and raters. In order to be a voter the person is required to be a parent with children between five and 15. There are other requirements, such as not having any connections in the film industry.

According to a Google search there are many movies and television programs using the word runner in their respective titles, including a 2015 movie called Runner.
