Local authorities responded to a domestic disturbance call at 7:48 p.m. PST on Monday in Hawaii to find a woman shot by her boyfriend. The house is located off of Akoni Pule Highway in the Halaula area.
Neighbors told officers when they arrived there was shouting and shrieking coming from inside the house in question. When the officers approached the house from the front, a group of several people scattered in all directions. In the middle of the chaos, a shot was fired at one of the police officers, hitting him in the right forearm.
A young woman, who is reportedly the suspect’s girlfriend, came out of the house shortly afterwards with a gunshot wound to the outside of her thigh. The woman’s identity has yet to be released; she is said to be 32 years old.
The officer’s name was not mentioned by the media. Sources state he is a 43-year-old male that has been with the Hawaii Police Department for 14 years. Both individuals were taken by ambulance to a hospital in North Hawaii for their non-life-threatening injuries.
The 37-year-old suspect has barricaded himself inside the home and is said to be the only one inside. The Hawaii Police Department’s Special Response Team is currently stationed outside of the home evacuating residents near the home for increased safety.
