Anyone who follows Comic-Con news has probably heard about the goings on in Hall H over the course of the convention. This includes the shenanigans and emotional moments that were a major part of the Supernatural panel on July 12. During the discussion with the cast and two crew members, there was a moment that had quite an effect on not only Jared Padalecki, but also the other members of the panel. As the question and answer session was turned over to the fans, the audience in Hall H lit up candles that had been handed out in honor of the Always Keep Fighting Campaign and held them up, many even yelling out the slogan to the amazement of those on the panel. This touching tribute inspired Padalecki to turn to Facebook to post a letter of thanks to the fans after Comic-Con ended.
Since the introduction of the Always Keep Fighting Campaign by Padalecki back in March, it seems an entire movement has started. The campaign which was designed to raise not only funds, but also awareness for mental health issues, has grown beyond what many could have imagined. Padalecki himself has mentioned that he was overwhelmed by all of the support he has received since he started the original campaign and opened up about his own battles with depression.
The first Always Keep Fighting Campaign was such a success that a second campaign was then introduced on April 16. This time the campaign included his costar, Jensen Ackles. Both of these campaigns were deemed to be massive successes after their conclusions and lead to the touching tribute at Comic-Con for which Padalecki has posted a letter of thanks to his fans.
In the letter, Padalecki says that he is “beyond moved” by what happened during the panel. He goes so far as to say, “I feel so blessed, and grateful, and honored to be a part of the magical Supernatural Family.” In fact, at first the actor did not know what was happening in the room (the other members of the panel had expressed the same sentiments in interviews following the conclusion of their time on stage) as it was unclear that these were mini tealight candles being held up.
It was not until after Padalecki was handed his very own light and a card with a note, that he realized what was happening. He admits that he was “gob-smacked” by what the moment stood for. He then offered his thanks to all of those people who were involved and all of the fans who have continued to support him. Padalecki said, “I will never forget this day. I will never forget the love that I felt, and still feel. And, to everybody who held a light for me, please know that I hold my light for you.”
The letter of thanks which Padalecki posted after the touching tribute at Comic-Con ends with the words Always Keep Fighting. This is a fitting sign off for a moment that was inspired by that very slogan, and a campaign that has become an integral part of the Supernatural fandom.
