According to reports from Fox News, four Marines were shot and killed in this morning’s attack on a Chattanooga Navy recruiting center. One victim is being treated at a nearby hospital. Police have stated the gunman was killed.
A search is currently being undertaken by police for an armed gunman after a shooting near a Chattanooga, Tennessee, Navy recruiting center, which injured an military officer. On Thursday, earlier reports stated the shooting occurred at the recruitment center, however, according to the U.S. Navy’s Twitter page, “#USNavy confirms no shooting at Reserve Center on Amnicola Highway, #Chattanooga, TN.” The tweet was sent at 12:09 p.m. A later response from the Navy confirmed the shooting.
Local authorities are investigating reports of a shooting somewhere on Lee Highway, near the recruiting building. According to a local report, the Tracks End Restaurant near where the incident may have happened is on lockdown. It is said that around 20 people may be inside still. Bradley Square Mall is also being searched for the gunman.
A passerby named Gina Mule told reporters that she was opening up a shop around 11:00 a.m., right before the incident occurred. She stated she witnessed, “a white male reload his “high-powered” rifle and then drive away in his silver-colored car.”
There is no information regarding the identity of the shooter or the extent of the officer’s injuries. Local police warn that the suspect is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
