Jared Fogle best known as a walking billboard for Subway restaurants pleads guilty to charges relating to child pornography. The restaurant chain severed all ties with Fogle in July 2015 after learning of the pending charges against him. Reports stated early on that the Subway Diet creator had been very cooperative with the FBI as the continued investigation took place. Very early this morning CNN announced that Fogle intended to plead guilty.
The former Subway spokesman’s home was raided for approximately 11 hours on June 7 in relation to the charges. Investigators removed computers and other electronics out of the home and brought in a police canine for further inspection. These accusations alarmed the 37-year-old’s family and friends. Fogle is married and has two children of his own. Neighbors were horrified by the allegations because they viewed him as a model citizen within their community.
Fogle became a household name after losing 245 pounds on the subway diet. The spokesman ate a six-inch turkey sub every day for lunch and a foot-long veggie sub for dinner. Along with the subway sandwiches, Fogle consumed a diet soda and baked chips. In 2000, after learning of his successful weight loss story, the fast-food chain employed Fogle in commercials to enhance the company’s brand. The restaurant saw positive sales results almost immediately.
However, ties with Fogle were dissolved last month based on pending charges in order to protect the franchise’s brand. As a result of a plea deal made with the spokesman, Jared Fogle has pled guilty to the charges of child pornography on August 19, 2015.
