Rosie O’Donnell Pleads for Safe Return of Missing Daughter Chelsea, 17

The teenage daughter of Rosie O’Donnell is reportedly missing and has not been seen since Aug. 11, 2015. The well-known talk-show host made a plea for the safe return of her 17-year-old daughter, Chelsea O’Donnell, on her blog at rosie.com.

According to the post, police in Nyack, N.Y., have been searching for Chelsea in the Rockland County area of the state since Sunday, Aug. 16. When last seen, Chelsea was wearing ripped, dark blue jeans, a black hoodie and grey Converse sneakers. She was also carrying a black backpack.

The teen has a large dream catcher tattoo on her right side along with the word “Breathe.” O’Donnell’s blog adds that when her daughter left home, she was with her therapy dog, a 6-month-old black and brown terrier named Bear who weighs nine pounds. The former co-host of The View also said in the post that Chelsea had quit taking a required prescription and needs medical care.

According to People, 17-year-old Chelsea was not reported missing at the time of her disappearance on August 11 because O’Donnell believed her daughter was with friends. The same source tells People that Chelsea did not have a cell phone with her when she left the home, nor did she have money, making the plea for her safe return even more urgent.

South Nyack Police Sergeant Daniel Wilson spoke with CNN, saying that Chelsea was reported missing on Sunday. He added that although her family had not seen her since last week, there had been contact between them since then. Although the police have not officially declared Chelsea “missing,” they are continuing to investigate.

A representative for O’Donnell, Cindi Berger, told People Magazine that Chelsea suffers from a mental illness and has had some difficulties lately. Berger added that the relationship between mother and daughter is “good,” and the family “just want[s] her back safe.”

It has been a rocky year for the famous mother of five. She left the talk show, The View, earlier this year, citing a need to focus on her family and her health after breaking up with her wife of three years, Michelle Rounds, with whom she adopted her youngest child.

The star suffered a heart attack in 2012 which was said to be “near-fatal.” She announced the news on her blog, saying that she had helped a heavyset woman get out of her car, in which she had been stuck, on a Tuesday morning. She recalled that it had been difficult, but she managed to free the woman. Several hours later, she experienced overall pain, sore arms and “an ache in my chest.” O’Donnell dismissed the symptoms until she “became nauseous” and vomited, after which she looked up the symptoms of a “womens [sic] heart attack” online. Although she did take aspirin, she did not call for medical assistance immediately, choosing to see a cardiologist the following day. The doctor immediately “sent me to the hospital where a stent was put in.” Urging women to become acquainted with the symptoms of a heart attack and to immediately “CALL 911” when they occurred, O’Donnell posted the story on her blog, where she now pleads for the safe return of her daughter.

A long-time feud between Donald Trump and O’Donnell made headlines again during the Aug. 6, 2015, Republican debate. When questioned by moderator Megyn Kelly regarding Trump’s comments about women, including calling them “fat pigs, dogs, slobs, disgusting animals,” Trump interrupted Kelly, saying, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.” Moments later, and seemingly in response to the out-of-left-field jab by the GOP candidate, the openly-lesbian actress tweeted, “try explaining that 2 ur kids.”

O’Donnell and her ex-wife, Kelli Carpenter-O’Donnell, with whom she also has two other children including Chelsea, have posted photos of the missing 17-year-old and her dog, Bear, on their social media accounts, pleading for their safe returns. The 53-year-old requests that any information on her missing daughter be reported to 911 or to 845-358-0206.

    1) If Rosie was my “mother” I would run away.
    2) If Chelsea had wanted a normal family with a dad, this would have been seen as a mental disorder.
    3) These “problems” Rosie has are all results of her decisions.
