School of Rock VB Offers Unique Music Lessons for a New Generation

School of RockThe School of Rock franchise has arrived in Virginia Beach, VA. With over 160 schools across the globe, this school has a unique way of teaching kids to rock their world. The approach School of Rock takes when teaching music helps children blossom in unimaginable ways. Through a variety of programs in a goal-oriented environment, children learn to work as a team, explore areas outside of their comfort zone while enhancing their musical skill set. The school is inviting everyone to attend their grand opening on Aug 22 in Virginia Beach to see firsthand what the School of Rock offers.

The School of Rock Franchise has over 160 schools worldwide all working toward the same goal of providing students with unique experiences in the world of music which they would not otherwise have the opportunity to partake. The school has a great track record of encouraging students of all ages to reach their maximum potential, not just in music, but in life. School of Rock recently completed a successful All Stars Tour in which the top one percent of students embarked on a 22 concert tour across the country at some of the most iconic stages, including the famous Lollapalooza in Chicago and Gathering of the Vibes music festival.

School of RockThe new School of Rock is perfectly poised right in the heart of Virginia Beach’s music ecosystem at 1552 Mill Dam Road. It is packed with programs, empowerment filled walls, instruments and the right teachers necessary to encourage and equip children to jam their way into a successful future in the world of music. The Grand Opening celebration for the new Virginia Beach location will feature live performances, free lessons, demos, giveaways and more. This is the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with the School of Rock VB and to enjoy an informative, but fun, family day.

The pre-grand opening celebration designed specifically for the media and VIPs around the area included a meet and greet with the owner and awesome staff of instructors, the signing of the guitar, a guided tour of the facility, introduction of programs and special performances.  As opposed to the typical ribbon cutting, champaign-popping experience, the School of Rock VB stayed true to its musical roots and instead broke a monumental guitar on the concrete in front of the entrance as a way to say, “We are here and ready to rock Virginia Beach!”

School of RockWhen speaking with the School of Rock VB’s owner and general manager, Eric Lonning, he explained that the school is not only concerned about creating wonderful musicians with a lasting love for all things rock but  is just as focused on creating cohesive bands of friendship, complete with musicians who understand that life is not a solo act. According to Lonning, the School of Rock VB is as committed to orchestrating a community full of cool experiences as it is about incubating extraordinary teamwork, building confidence and achieving excellence through its unique teaching method. When asked how his love for music and the arts came to be, Lonning said:

I have played drums for years. I played in a number of bands and had some success recording, performing, and doing a bit of touring. I have a degree from Wake Forest University, so I always held down a corporate job while I was playing music. At one point, the band I was in kind of ran its course and I decided to focus on my marketing career. I did that for close to 10 years and had a great job filming TV commercials, coming up with ads, managing creative teams, and more.

After hearing the owner’s passion and watching his face light up at the very mention of music it was easy to realize this is what Lonning is supposed to be doing. Yet, after hearing of the great success he had already experienced career-wise which also utilized his creativity, the question of how he came to be involved in such an amazing brand as the School of Rock arose. Lonning replied:

I did not feel passionate about what I was doing, was tired of working for other people so a couple of years ago I started thinking a lot about going out on my own. Around the same time, I stumbled upon the School of Rock franchise. I spent about a year researching the business and franchises in general. The more I looked into it, the more I liked what I saw. The way the School of Rock puts the music first and casts kids into amazing rock shows really stood out as an amazing way to learn music. Then, I visited other schools and started preparing to open our school in Virginia Beach. If we focus on giving each individual student an amazing experience, the rest will take care of itself.

The School of Rock believes every child deserves to feel like a rock star and is committed to creating the perfect environment with qualified instructors to make it happen. School of Rock VB’s performance program is all about converting each of the student’s current ability to play in the classroom to performing on stage in front of a live School of Rockaudience. Not only will students fine-tune their overall skill and proficiency as musicians, but at the of School of Rock VB children will also gain a full understanding of what it means to belong to a band which involves collaboration, teamwork, and the unique type of fun that one can only learn when sharing such an experience with others.

Eric Lonning and his wonderful staff are inviting people to attend the grand opening celebration and learn for themselves what the School of Rock in Virginia Beach has to offer. Instructors will provide free lessons and demonstrations; the party will also include live performances and free food. The grand opening event takes place at 1552 Mill Dam Road from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015. Take this opportunity to get introduced to the revolutionary, fun and unique method of learning to play music offered at the School of Rock VB.

I don’t think you realize this isn’t a new concept in Virginia Beach or Hampton Roads. Every music store offers a rock band program, whether it’s in the title or not. If anyone would have consulted with anyone at these music stores, you would know that rock music is dead. Enrollment is down. Retention isn’t there. After franchise fees, there will be no profit. Good luck and I look forward to buying these instruments off of Craigslist in a year.

Thank you so much for your comment, however, this is not a store, it is a school. There is also one in Norfolk, VA that is doing quite well. Thank you for your feedback.
