The Bugatti Chiron, which will be officially unveiled at the Geneva Show in March 2016, will come with a hefty price tag that can only be afforded by those with millions to spare. According to reports, the Volkswagen Group announced that the new Chiron will replace the equally powerful Bugatti Veyron and prospective clients should budget at least $2.5 million to get the limited edition.
The new supercar, named after the famous Monaco-born racer Louis Chiron, will epitomize sheer power and agility. It is well designed to drive smoothly on public roads and comes with 1500 metric horsepower. A quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine makes the Bugatti Chiron reach a top speed of 288 miles per hour (463 kilometers per hour). According to Car Magazine, the Bugatti Chiron has “redeveloped tires for better wet grip and improved ultra-high compatibility for top speeds.” In 2.3 seconds, the new supercar can reach 62 miles per hour (99 kilometers per hour) with an 1106 pound-feet torque peak. The new sports car has a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and is stabilized by the four-wheel drive that provides amazing traction. Its 16 cylinders, all arranged in W formation, makes the car a standout in comparison to other powerful brands like Porsche 918 or the LaFerrari.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, head of Bugatti, in an interview with Car and Driver said that the passion that drove the automobile company towards the new sports car was “drivability and usability on the track with top speed.” He also pointed out that, Ferdinad Piech, the brainchild behind the new Chiron, aimed at pushing all boundaries in coming up with the best Bugatti ever for an ultra-rich few. “The new Bug will be the best SuperSports car on the planet in all dimensions with a price tag above a million dollars. It will have speed, power, magnificent design and will be ultra-sharp,” the transcript read. For those with millions to spare, reports suggest that the company will only make 500 units of the new car as compared to 450 that debuted the Veyron in 2005.
Dürheimer also dispelled rumors of a Bugatti SUV. He said his company remains conservative and only pushed the boundaries of science and technology in developing the Chiron. Speculation of the Russian and Saudi Arabia market yearning for a SUV will not shift their focus in producing top speed cars. “We do not intend to change our brand perception and our market position. We will remain ultra-sharp and at the top,” said Dürheimer in a long ranging interview with Car and Driver. This market positioning has been inspired by the fact that all 450 Veyrons put on the market were sold out. A Veyron price tag is reported to be $1.6 million.
Meanwhile, the French-based car manufacturer has built a supercar that will be “available exclusively for Play Station gamers.” The Vision Gran Turismo was recently unveiled at the 66th Frankfurt Motor Show and will be available soon for gamers to download. This virtual version is also touted as a preview of the new Chiron. According to Achim Anscheidt, the director of design, the virtual version will give anyone who cannot spare millions the opportunity to own their own Bugatti. “This car is about our stylistic future, it is a vision of things to come with the state-of-the-art aerodynamics and drag reduction system,” said Anscheidt in a statement. It is, therefore, clear that the Bugatti Chiron will be available to those with millions to spare.
