Atlanta – The Atlanta Police Department and the Humane Society of the United States will offer a free seminar on combatting animal abuse, utilizing proper procedures for investigations, current laws and the connection between animal cruelty and other felony crimes. Georgia law enforcement officers are invited to attend the training seminar that also focuses on collecting interviews and evidence as it relates to animal cruelty and fighting.
According to a study by the Chicago Police Department, there is a strong connection between crimes against animals and violence to humans. The study determined that of those arrested for animal crimes, 65 percent had been arrested for battery against another person. Additionally, animal fighting is often associated with other crimes such as gang activity, drug dealing and illegal gambling.
The free training will be held Monday, October 12 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Atlanta Police Department Training Academy located at 180 Southside Industrial Parkway, Atlanta, Georgia 30354.
Media must RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org if they would like to film a portion of the training.
