Golden Globe Awards Celebrates Its 73rd Year in 2016

Golden Globe Awards

On Jan. 10, 2016, at 8 p.m. ET, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, the Golden Globe Awards celebrates its 73rd year, delighting the senses as celebrated stars of some of the most famous motion pictures of 2015  arrive, pause, and greet the paparazzi with gleaming smiles. According to Time, Ricky Gervais will return as host after a three-year hiatus, stepping in for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who have co-hosted the Globes the past few years. Comedian Gervais has already apologized to people who may potentially take offense to his tendency to launch insults toward the star-studded crowd.

The Golden Globe Awards continue to be a destination of choice for those who live for and enjoy the glamour and glitz of Hollywood. The Globes celebrate the best in motion picture and television achievements. Although the event will air live on NBC, red-carpet interviews will take place outside of the Beverly Hilton as soon as stars attending the event begin to arrive, which is typically around 7 p.m. Willie Geist, Savannah Guthrie, Matt Lauer, and Tamron Hall each have the privilege of hosting the pre-show. The bigger stars that typically draw the biggest cheers will arrive a little later, including Jennifer Lawrence, Alicia Vikander, Lady Gaga, and Rooney Mara, as reported by CNN.

The nominees are selected from categories such as best motion picture, best performance by an actor in a supporting role, and best animated film. Although it was not the original intention of producers to refer to The Martian as a comedy, The Golden Globes has nominated the film for Best Motion Picture for a Musical or Comedy. When compared to the other films in the same group, The Big Short, Joy, Spy, and Trainwreck, The Martian seems out-of-place. However, according to a report by Bustle, the Golden Globe Awards is a project of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), and the organization has the authority to place the movie in the comedy genre.

As The Golden Globe Awards enter its 73rd year, it will serve as the official kick-off of the celebrated awards season of 2016. Some also view it as predictors of the even more prestigious Oscars event, which takes place in February. Some of the presenters of this year’s celebration include past winners of the Globes, such as Kate Hudson, Eddie Redmayne, Channing Tatum, and Kurt Russell.

This year’s award that honors people who have had an enormous impact on the entertainment world, the Cecile B. DeMille Award, will go to Denzel Washington. His exceptional performances earned him two Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards, and a Tony Award in 2010, as reported by bio.

In celebration of its 73rd year, the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, promises to be a night to remember. The votes are in, the nominees are waiting in anticipation, and the fans are ready.
