Golden Globe Awards
The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards took place on Jan. 10, 2016, in Los Angeles, California. This year, it was hosted by comedian Ricky Gervais. Similar to other years in past, some of the winners were unpredicted. The Golden Globes are divided into two categories, which are film and television awards.

Awards for Film

  • Denzel Washington was awarded the 2016 Cecil B. DeMille Award.
  • The winner of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture was Kate Winslet in Steve Jobs.
  • Best Original Score was awarded to Ennio Morricone forThe Hateful Eight.
  • Matt Damon was awarded Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
  • Inside Out won Best Animated Motion Picture.
  • Sylvester Stallone, who starred in Creed, was awarded Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.
  • Another major player involved in Steve Jobs was awarded in this year’s Golden Globe Awards as well. Aaron Sorkin won Best Screen Play for a Motion Picture.
  • Hungary’s Son of Saul won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
  • Best Original Song in a Motion Picture was awarded to Spectre‘s Writings On The Wall.
  • This year’s Best Director was awarded to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for directing The Revenant.
  • Jennifer Lawrence was awarded Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy for her movie, Joy.
  • The Martian won Best Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy in this year’s Golden Globe Awards.
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama was awarded to Brie Larson for her performance in Room.
  • Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his performance in The Revenant.
  • The Revenant also won Best Motion Picture Drama.

Awards for Television

  • Maura Tierney was awarded Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series, or Motion Picture made for Television. She won this award for her performance in The Affair.
  • Taraji P. Henson won Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Drama for her hit series, Empire.
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy, was awarded to Rachel Bloom in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
  • Mozart in the Jungle won Best Television Series in a Musical or Comedy.
  • Wolf Hall won the award for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
  • Oscar Isaac was awarded Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his performance in Show Me a Hero.
  • For USA’s Mr. Robot, Christian Slater won Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series, or Motion Picture made for Television.
  • Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm won Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series Drama.
  • Gael Garcia Bernal, from Mozart in the Jungle, was awarded Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy.
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television was awarded to Lady Gaga. She won this award for her performance in American Horror Story: Hotel.
  • Mr. Robot won Best Television Series, Drama.

To recap the 2016 Golden Globe Awards, The Revenant claimed the most awards. Jennifer Lawrence won her third Golden Globe, while Leonardo DiCaprio claimed his third one also, despite being nominated nine other times. Lady Gaga made her Golden Globe debut this year. This was the first time that the pop singer was recognized for acting. Taraji P. Henson, who is growing in the Entertainment industry, also made her debut this year and won her first Golden Globe award as well. Henson also dedicated hers to all her “haters.”
