Kim Basinger to Star in ‘Fifty Shades Darker’

Kim Basinger
Kim Basinger is an American actress from Athens, Ga. It has been recently announced that Basinger will be the star of the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, Fifty Shades Darker. She will be playing the role of Elena Lincoln, who is Christian Grey’s (Jamie Dornan) business partner and former lover.

Lincoln was introduced in the series as being a ghost from Grey’s past. Her character is actually known for being the woman to introduce him to his extensive sexual practices. She had seduced Grey at a young age and is the reason why he is involved in the intense sexual practices his character enjoys. In Fifty Shades Darker, Lincoln and Grey are set to be involved in a love triangle with Grey’s lover, Anastasia Grey (Dakota Johnson), who also goes by “Ana” in the series. In the sequel, the love triangle causes numerous arguments between the three and Ana makes accusations about Lincoln, who Ana also refers to as Mrs Robinson. Basinger’s role is also rumoured to be the most affecting role in the sequel. As an antagonist, the love triangle causes a tug of war between her and Ana.

In the sequel, Lincoln appears as still being a close friend to both Grey and his mother. She also becomes his confidante and mentor as she continues to help Grey in his growth as a successful businessman. Over time, she also became his mentor professionally as well as personally, and the two grew a dependence towards each other. The love triangle causes Ana to become threatened and uncomfortable.

Basinger will be a new cast addition in Fifty Shades Darker, but this will not be the first time that Basinger takes on the role of a sexy vixen. She may have been the perfect candidate for the role of Lincoln as she also starred in the erotic film, 9 1/2 Weeks. 9 1/2 Weeks was released in 1986. Basinger’s character, Elizabeth McGraw, has an intense love affair with a Wall Street broker, John Gray (Mickey Rourke). Coincidentally, this Gray portrays a similar character to Grey from Fifty Shades. Gray pushes McGraw’s sexual limits and experiments in various ways during each encounter. This causes McGraw to plummet emotionally.

The 62-year-old actress has not only been featured in 38 films but is a former fashion model. Her acting career began in 1976 as she had small roles in various television series, such as  Charlie’s Angels and McMillan & Wife. Her first starring role, though, was when she was given the role of Katie in the movie, Katie: Portrait of a Centerfold (1978).

It was not until 1981 that Basinger’s career started to grow and she began appearing in more frequent films and productions. She also appeared in Batman in 1989 as Vicki Vale and 1997’s L.A. Confidential as Lynn Bracken. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in L.A. Confidential. Some of Basinger’s most recent appearances include starring in 8 Mile (2002), Charlie St. Cloud (2010), and Grudge Match (2013). This year, she will appear in two other films, The Nice Guys and Nocturnal Animals.

E.L. James, who is the author of the Fifty Shades trilogy, briefly hinted Lincoln’s sequel appearance in the first film. While Basinger will be the next and newest star in Fifty Shades Darker, other returning cast members include Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti, and Max Martini. Fifty Shades fans should expect the film to be released on Valentine’s Day of 2017, as the previous film was released on Valentine’s Day in 2015. It is also said that following the production of Fifty Shades Darker, the production of the film based on the third book in the trilogy, Fifty Shades Freed, will take place. February 2018 is the intended release date for the third movie in the trilogy.
