2016 GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has openly promoted waterboarding and continues to express his views in the wake of the premeditated terrorist attacks in Brussels earlier today. In an interview with Huffington Post, Malcolm Nance, chairman of the Terrorism Asymmetric Project, claimed, “Trump right now is validating the cartoonish view that [ISIS] tells their operatives and that they tell their terrorists that the United States is a racist nation; xenophobic and anti-Muslim.”
In a recent interview with Today, Trump promoted waterboarding, saying, “Brussels is a total mess; it’s catastrophic, very dangerous city where the police have very little control. I am in the camp where you have to get the information and you have to get it rapidly. Frankly, if it was up to me waterboarding would be fine. I would do a lot more than waterboarding. You have to get the information from these people.”
To back up the reason why he promotes this tactic, Trump also expressed that he believes the happenings within Brussels are due to the lack of assimilation and the increase of immigration from the Middle East to Brussels. Among his peers, Trump has sparked great controversy over how the suspects in the Brussels attacks should be dealt with.
