On April 13, 2016, at around 2:09 p.m. EST, a student of the New Life School in New Haven, Connecticut, bought a hand-held gun to school after an altercation that occurred earlier in the day.
According to the Hartford Courant, police officials stated that an altercation had previously broken out involving several students at the New Life School located on 21 Wooster Place. The incident occurred around 12:55 p.m. and one of the students claimed that he would return with a gun. There were several witnesses to confirm the incident.
The Hartford Courant also reported that a security guard at the New Life School told police officials the student in question, did make it onto school grounds with a handgun but was not granted entry into the facility.
Afterward, the New Life School was placed on lockdown. Police officials were then posted at several checkpoints organized around the perimeter of the school until the students were dismissed for the day. Parents were instructed to quickly pick up their children, return to their homes and to stay indoors.
Talks of enforcing a city-wide curfew by police officials are beginning to brew. Authorities are still in search of the young teen.
