Sunday, April 16, 2017, James Mackler, a former Iraq war veteran, announced today he would run for Sen. Bob Corker’s U.S. Senate seat in 2018.
Mackler is an attorney in Nashville, Tenn. and he started his day by disclosing his intentions to take Corker’s position. He is the first Democrat from his state to make his decision public. The attorney says he wants to restore honesty, respect, and he feels it is imperative to bring back integrity to Washington D.C.
He further explained why he wants to take Corker’s Senate seat, and he believes America has become so divided that the political leaders completely dismiss the idea of working together to solve the country’s biggest problems.
The Democratic attorney said he learned from his war experience that cooperation and teamwork are strengths which help to accomplish goals. According to Mackler, diversity can have benefits in even the most challenging of missions.
Mackler recently practiced at two of Nashville law firms. Before that, he was a Blackhawk helicopter pilot for three years with the 101st Airborne Division. He enlisted in the military in 2001 following the Sept. 11, attacks, which lead to his service in Iraq.
If the Nashville attorney does indeed enter the Democratic primary in 2018 to take a Senate seat, he will be the underdog. The has not had a suitable Democratic candidate since Rep. Harold Ford Jr. lost to Corker in 2006.
