Warriors Steal Game 3 From Cavaliers in NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors stole game-3 from the Cleveland Cavaliers, 118-113, Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

The first quarter was again very competitive as it has been all series. There were seven lead changes and four ties in the quarter. The Cavaliers led by as many as 5 points, but the Warriors finished strong and led 39-32 by the end of the period. Golden State set a new Finals record with nine 3-point shots made in one quarter.

The second quarter saw the pace slow just a bit from the first period. The Cavaliers made several runs to tie the score once at 39 all, and to get within 1 point of the Warriors at 41-40. However, Golden State held on to the lead and pushed it to 8 points, 67-59, with 38 seconds left. Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving scored the last basket of the first half at the buzzer. The half concluded with the Warriors leading 67-61.

LeBron James was a monster in the first half, scoring 27 points to lead all scorers after the second period. Klay Thompson came alive for the Warriors with excellent shooting and had scored 21 points at the halftime break.

The Cavaliers came out firing on all cylinders in a scintillating third period. Perhaps the most contested period of the Finals, the third featured 10 lead changes and 6 ties. The Warriors shooting went a bit cold and Cleveland came on strong. They finished the quarter recapturing the lead for a 94-89 advantage.

The fourth quarter saw Cleveland continue to lead by as much as 7 points and held the lead until 2:19 remaining. The Warriors then scored the final 11 points of the game to recapture the lead and take the victory in front of a stunned Cleveland crowd.

The Cavaliers high scorer was James with 39 points. Irving added 38 points for the Cavaliers. The Warriors were led by Kevin Durant with 31 points. Durant has now scored 30 or more in each of the Finals games.

With this win, the Warriors are one game away from a sweep over the defending champs. The teams will clash again on Friday, June 9, in Cleveland.
