Rocky Cantu is currently 13-7-0. Dec. 2, 2017, will be his 21st match. He has decided, after this match, if his trainers say he is ready, Cantu is going pro!
Cantu competed in wrestling from the eighth grade through college. He has been fighting since he was 19. In 2014, he moved to Nevada and joined Xtreme Couture.
Cantu started fighting in Michigan, which does not regulate the sport of mixed martial arts fighting, so he is used to showing up prepared to fight, without knowing anything about his opponent. For example, his first loss was against a man 20 pounds heavier. Cantu took an elbow to the face and the fight was called by the doctor. The elbow caused a gash deep enough to require a couple layers of stitches.
Cantu recalled his first fight. “I punched him in the face and I thought, why am I hitting this guy? I am not mad at him. Well, I have to kick his a** because he’s gonna kick mine!” Cantu won the fight in 48 seconds.
He trains and shows up ready for whomever is willing to take him on. Cantu’s opponent may know that Cantu’s goal is to take him down, but he still has to stop it from happening. He says he studies his opponents but that does not stop him from doing what he does best.
He is more than a fighter. Cantu is also a bow hunter. He compares the preparation leading up to the kill to that of a fight. He says fighting and hunting are both peaceful sports to him. It is about hanging in there, in the wild, until success is achieved.
