Carles Puyol suffers awkward fall during Benfica game (video)

It is suspected that Carles Puyol suffered from dislocated shoulder after awkward fall during the Champions League against Benfica. It seem like the  34-year-old not only will miss this Sunday’s El Clasico, but he also look likely for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Puyol was able to play up to the  78th-minute of the game corner and was challenged by Benfica goalkeeper. Artur. When landing,  his arm visibly  underneath him and he immediately signaled to the Barcelona bench. Puyol had only just recovered for a knee ligament injury for the Barcelona’s game 3-2 win at Sevilla on Saturday.

Barcelona says midfielder Andres Iniesta and defenders Carles Puyol and Adriano have recovered from injury, but Thiago Alcantara will be sidelined for eight weeks.

The three fit players have been selected for Barcelona’s Champions League match at Benfica on Tuesday.

Iniesta missed four matches after injuring a muscle in his right leg on international duty for Spain, while Puyol more than halved his expected recovery time after hurting a ligament in his left knee two weeks ago.

Adriano sat out Saturday’s 3-2 win at Sevilla with a muscle problem.

Barcelona hosts Real Madrid on Oct. 7 in the Spanish league.
