Justin Bieber has not quite understood the ice bucket challenge and did it wrong on two occasions. The idea is to fill buckets with ice water to get the full temporary effect of ALS sufferers. However, the Canadian singer used just water. Many questioned whether it was really cold water in the bucket.
On the first occasion, the Boyfriend singer opted for a saucepan of water. While the look on his face said that it was a shock, he certainly did not look too cold. It would not have given him the temporary symptoms that a bucket of actual ice water would have. The saucepan could have even been warm water and he just put on the look of shock for effect for those who would watch the video.
During that video, the singer even had the guts to nominate President Barack Obama to do the ice bucket challenge. There has been no word from the White House as to whether the American President will give it a go. It is unlikely that he has ever spotted Bieber’s video. Bieber is unlikely going to be someone he looks out for in a fun video, even if the challenge is for charity.
As if one bucket of water was not enough, the 20-year-old opted to do a second one. However it was still a case of Bieber doing the ice bucket challenge completely wrong. He still failed to have any ice in the bucket, leading many to believe that he pour warmer water to limit the effects.
He is not the only one not to quite get the idea of the challenge. Andrew Rannells, who was nominated by Lena Dunham to do the challenge, fooled everyone right up until the last minute that he was going to throw ice water over his head. Instead of taking part in the ice bucket challenge, he promoted the website where everyone can make a donation, saying that that was something he had already done.
Rannells’ video promoted the charity well and made it very clear what it is all supposed to be about. Sharing the actual website would also help those who want to know more about ALS and where the money goes.
This video was similar to Charlie Sheen’s version of the challenge. Rather than pour water over him, he poured $10,000 over his head. This was not to flaunt his money. He made it clear that that was the amount he would donate to the charity, as that was what the aim of the challenge was; to raise awareness and money for researchers.
Some celebrities are doing it right. Selena Gomez was one who did. She showed her bucket being filled with ice before it was poured over her head. Afterwards, she nominated James Franco, Suki Waterhouse and Cara Delevingne to do the challenge. No videos have surfaced of them taking up the challenge at the time of writing this.
Many celebrities have gotten involved with the challenge of throwing ice water over their head. Unfortunately not all are doing it right. Bieber is one of those doing the ice bucket challenge wrong by not adding any ice to their buckets of water.
