House of Cards stars Kevin Spacey as Francis Underwood and Robin Wright as his wife, Claire. This critically-acclaimed drama depicts a suspenseful and captivating version of what goes on through the back halls of greed, sex, love and corruption in modern Washington D.C.

In the second season of House of Cards, the power husband-and-wife duo, the Underwoods, continue their ruthless rise to power despite mounting threats on all fronts. President Walker’s (Michel Gill, The Good Wife) billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney, Southland) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. Also, the glare of the spotlight eats away at Claire and Francis’s once private existence.

The Underwoods must face all of the threats despite any possible collateral damage that might result to avoid losing everything that they have worked for. This dramatic series is one of the most watched ones in the history of Netflix, with many fans binge watching entire seasons of it.

Also, House of Cards was, in 2013, the first-ever streaming series to be nominated for Primetime Emmy® awards. It was then nominated for nine Emmys and won three of them for Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series (Laray Mayfield and Julie Schubert), Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (David Fincher), and Outstanding Cinematography for a Single Camera Series (Eigil Bryld). In 2014, House of Cards has been nominated for thirteen Emmy®awards for its second season, including a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.

Orange is the New Black is a controversial comedic drama set in a women’s prison. The creator and Executive Producer of the series is Jenji Kohan (Weeds). The show stars Taylor Schilling and is based on the popular memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman (Schilling). Piper’s decade-old relationship with drug-runner Alex (Laura Prepon) results in her arrest and 15-month long detention in a federal penitentiary.

In prison, in an orange-colored jumpsuit, Piper is forced to question everything she believes and form unexpected new alliances with a group of eccentric and outspoken inmates. Other actresses starring in Orange is the New Black include Kate Mulgrew, Natasha Lyonne, Pablo Schreiber, Danielle Brooks, Laverne Cox, Uzo Aduba and Taryn Manning.

Orange is the New Black was the most nominated comedy of 2014, nominated for 12 Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series. The series also won the Television Critics’ Association (TCA) Outstanding New Program Award as well as winning the Critics’ Choice Television Award Best Comedy Series, Critics’ Choice Television Award Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Mulgrew) and Critics’ Choice Television Award Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series (Aduba).

The Square was nominated for four Emmy Awards in 2014 and won three of them. The documentary is a captivating and intensely moving human chronicle of the Egyptian protest movement from director-producer Jehane Noujaim and producer Karim Amer. The Square tells the behind-the-scenes story of the Egyptian Revolution through the eyes of young activists who have the goal of building a better Egypt.

The Square depicts the immediacy and intensity of the protests in Tahrir Square from the 2011 overthrow of military leader Hosni Mubarak through the ousting of Mohammed Morsi in 2013. The main characters in The Square include Magdy, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, Khalid Abdalla, an Egyptian actor who played the lead in The Kite Runner and the charismatic Ahmed, whose poetic storytelling carries the narrative.

In 2014, Netflix proved that the Emmy Awards it picked up in 2013 were not flukes, by winning seven additional Emmys. House of Cards and Orange is the New Black won four altogether, while the excellent documentary, The Square, took the other three Emmy Awards for the company. Tune in to watch the Emmy Awards 2014 awards show on FXM on Sunday, August 24, at 8:00 PM(ET/PT).
