Archdiocese of New York Releases Names of 120 Priests Accused of Sex Abuse

On April 26, 2019, the New York Archdiocese released to the public a list of 120 priests that have been accused of possessing pornography, sexual abuse, or activities which required compensation being paid to the victim.

The Archdiocese found the accusations credible.

The list of priests can be found here.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan tweeted on Twitter announcing the list of priests has been posted. He said: “It should be noted that no deacon or priests who had a substantiated or credible case of abuse against a minor are presently in the ministry.” He added that along with the priest’s names, the list contains their status and date of ordination.

He then asked to pray for consolation and peace for the survivors of the priest abuse and their families.

Three-quarters of the priests listed were ordained before 1969. The archdiocese stated. There have been no priests listed since 2002 when the church adopted a charter to protect children.

The majority of priests out of the 120 listed are dead. Many of the others who have been listed have been removed from their positions and defrocked.
