In this corner you have country music singer Tim McGraw and his country music spectacular and in the opposing corner you have the live Billboard Music Awards. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you the match of the night; Tim McGraw versus Billboard Music Awards.
And may the best show win.
To many this may not seem like much of a battle. Considering that Billboard will have a large amount of music genres on their show and will be featuring the likes of Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez, who incidentally are all sitting at the same table, most folks could be forgiven for thinking that poor old country boy Tim is going to lose.
But the latest “polls” are showing a rise in the popularity of country music and it just recently overtook classic rock and roll as the most popular music genre. Plus, the demographic target of the Billboard Music Awards is the 18 to 25 year-olds who are, amazingly, twice as likely to say that they are fans of country music.
These recent statistics show just how much country music has grown in the music industry and with listeners as well. The new brand of country music singer is well versed in creating songs that easily crossover into other genres. Not to mention that a lot of rock singers are collaborating on more country songs with the idea of increasing their appeal.
Of course, the ACM Presents Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night that will be airing tonight at the same time as the Billboard ceremony will not only have female fan favourite McGraw, but, it will feature Taylor Swift (a favorite of the fellas) and Band Perry, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and Faith Hill. Not only are all those great performers on, but pop stars Nelly, Ne-Yo and Pitbull are also on the show.
But if you really don’t feel like putting on your cowboy hat and boots and getting down with McGraw and co, you can always change that channel and catch the Billboard Music Awards.
Madonna is going to collect the Top Touring Artist Award. Tracy Morgan will be hosting the three-hour event and Prince will be performing. And if that’s not enough for you, how about Christina Aguilera, Pitbull and “a special surprise guest” joining forces for Feel This Moment. And if you were thinking of changing the channel to see Ne-Yo, don’t bother, because he, David Guetta and Akon will be together on Play Hard. Plus Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez are together for Live It Up, the song they performed on the “American Idol” finale.
If you wanted to see Nicki Minaj take the stage on the “Idol” finale, she didn’t perform anyway, you can see her tonight with Lil Wayne on High School. Justin Bieber fans get to hear him sing Take You as well see him perform with will.i.am on That Power. Also set to perform are Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Selena Gomez, Miguel, Chris Brown, the Band Perry, who like Ne-Yo are double banging it tonight, and Icona Pop.
So whichever music you want to indulge yourself in, it’s going to be a good night to tune in and watch some great artists and hear some great tunes.
