Buffalo Senior James LeGrand Brutal Beating Caught on Tape (Video)

Bennett High School

A brutal beating of a Buffalo, N.Y. senior was caught on video. WGRZ-TV was given a video of a Buffalo man who was brutally beaten by a group of high school student.

The incident happened in North Buffalo at Shoshone Park two weeks ago as James LeGrand, who is a part of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown’s Impact Team, was in the park’s parking lot when he noticed two girls arguing with a bunch of student who surrounded them and were encouraging them to fight. He tried to break up the fight several times and then got a camera and started taking pictures. When he warned the students he was going to show their principal at nearby Bennett High School, the crowd turned on him.

“Each time I turned, you know, somebody was hitting me from behind,” he said.

Once the beating was over and LeGrand came to his sense, he called 911. The case is currently being investigated as a 2nd Degree robbery as the students took his cell phone and camera. A spokesperson for the Buffalo Police Department declined an on camera interview, but said the investigation is continuing even though the beating was caught on tape.

The problem here is that the Buffalo Public School District has done its own investigation and has pretty much most of the students in the video have been identified. The station was told that long term suspension proceedings are already ongoing.

Dr. David Mauricio, a Buffalo Public School Community Superintendent and former principal at Bennett High School, released a statement.

“While this incident is a police matter, we expect all of our students to be good citizens, on and off campus,” Dr Mauricio said in the statement. “The behavior in question is not at all indicative of the Bennett High School community or the majority of our students. As former principal of Bennett High School and currently as the community superintendent overseeing Bennett, we strived to instill these positive values with our students on a daily basis.”

It’s disturbing that a school has made more headway than a police force. Here a beating is caught on tape and still no arrests have been made.

Now, some may say the lack of arrests is due to the fact that they haven’t found the cell phone or camera yet, or haven’t been given the video. While that may be true, the point here is that the beating is a clear assault on the man.

With the beating caught on tape, hopefully arrests will soon be coming for these people.
