The Buzz
Buxom blonde (Madelyn Scheaffer) banned for her itsy bitsy bikini at Adventure Oasis Water Park Missouri . ‘Sexism & Ageism’ demons reared their ugly heads at Adventure Oasis Water Park on Wednesday July 3, 2013. Madelyn Sheaffer is in her forties, healthy and proud to have lost a staggering 100 pounds. When her and her daughter decided to take a trip to the local water park to cool down, she wore a basic black bikini ruffled with white, and bikini briefs. There is no dress code or prohibited swim wear posted at the entrance to the park, according to the City Officials who were willing to speak to the media, many of them became inaccessible, they “trust the judgment of their management.”
According to Madylene Schaeffer she was told that police would escort her off the premises if she refused to leave voluntarily or cover up. The police were called, and were apparently sympathetic to the situation, but as city employees, unable to enforce her civil liberties and freedoms against age and sex discrimination.
We can’t actually say anything,” they said as we walked outside, (as it is a city owned park), ..but I hope from the expressions on our face you can tell how we feel,” They were compassionate. They too, thought it was ridiculous.
Schaeffer describes other females wearing basically the same type of swim wear but being much younger, not being asked to cover up at all. Madelyne Schaeffer is a fit forty-three year old woman, who has a voluptuous figure, the question is why is the city allowing sexist discrimination towards their patrons? An ‘itsy bitsy bikini’ banned from Adventure Oasis water park Missouri, sounds like grounds for a lawsuit against the city for sexism discrimination and ageism discrimination.

The verbal attack and physical confrontation are nothing short of an attempt to degrade Madelyne and sexually demean her. The statement, that it is a “family” park is an insinuation is that Adventure Oasis is good clean fun for the whole family, and that Schaeffer’s body is somehow a threat to that environment; and that insinuation is offensive and nothing short of predatory. Since when does a mature woman’s body have no place and no right to be seen as a natural part of the family? Only certain sized bodies, preferably ones that are virgins, with tight flesh, rather than matriarchs’ with full figures have a right to bare skin? Even in a man’s world, his preferences has limits, and those limits are measures of the law.

There are laws in Missouri against this type of public humiliation and shaming. The Missouri Human Rights Act makes it illegal “for a place of public accommodation to discriminate because of an individual’s race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, or disability, including refusing to provide service; and setting different terms or conditions for services or facilities.” Madelyn Schaeffer really only needs some corroborating testimony and physical evidence like photos and she has a solid case in which to file a complaint against the business and the city for refusing to conduct an investigation, and issue an apology.

I say if your comfortable that’s all that matters, she was not dressed inappropriately at all, I wonder if a well built man was in a speedo and um filling it out would they ask him to leave??
A big thank you for your blog article. Thanks Again. Want more.
I didn’t think the bikini was inappropriate. If you are going to allow some people to wear the bikini but not other people, then it’s a clear case of discrimination! Personally, I thought she was very attractive and swimsuit appropriate.
Celebrate, blah blah, sacrifice, blah blah, for pete’s sake, put on some clothes.
I concur that the ADVENTURE OASIS WATERPARK IN MISSOURI acted in an arbitrary and discriminatory way in applying a subjective standard to Madeleyne Schaeffer and her swimsuit in a public facility. As the Guardian notes, “she has a solid case in which to file a complaint against the business and the city for refusing to conduct an investigation, and issue an apology.”
She has lost 100 lbs. and is an adult who has the right to wear the same kind of swimsuit allowed by the park for younger teens. The supervisor at the park was applying a personal, Subjective, criteria and not one clearly identified and posted by the water park.
Go get ’em Madelyne
When “her” and her daughter….. Did you actually take English in school?
Ms. Schaeffer is beautiful and I commend her on her weight loss. Mothers sacrifice their bodies for their children daily so for her to achieve such a significant loss is nothing short of amazing. We should be celebrating her commitment to a healthier life.
