Amanda Bynes Recovery Still Has a Long Way to Go

With Amanda Bynes losing her appeal to leave the psychiatric hospital that she’s being involuntarily held in, it appears that her recovery still has long way to go. After getting locked up for a mental evaluation when Bynes capped off a sequence of bizarre stunts with setting a stranger’s driveway on fire and burning part of her clothing in the process, the troubled actress has had an initial diagnosis of being schizophrenic.

Despite reports coming in that the 27 year-old ex-Nickelodeon star is responding well to her medication, it seems that her actual recovery might take a long time. Fashionandstyle.com report that sources close to Amanda are saying that although her prognosis is good, she’s not getting out of the hospital anytime soon.

The source said, “Reports that said she was responding well to the psychiatric drugs that were being given to her are wrong. It can take months, or even years to get someone like Amanda to find the right drug combination and then get her therapeutic.”

“The good news is that schizophrenia is treatable. It’s a very serious diagnosis, but Amanda can live a long and healthy life, as long as she takes her prescribed medications. She can function in society and still work,” the source added.

But even with the somewhat hopeful information from the hospital that Amanda Bynes is recovering, it appears that she still has a long way to go, even if she does continue to take her medication. Her descent into mental illness has been well documented this year and it was her last two bizarre actions that landed her in trouble with the police again.

On July 23 this year, Bynes was arrested after a very busy day spent first trying to get into a retirement home and being refused entry. She was placed in a cab, but as she had no money, the police were called. She then went to a house in Thousand Oaks, California (which was very near the retirement home) and set fire to an elderly stranger’s driveway. She burnt her trouser leg as well as her pomeranian dog.

Bynes left the area in a cab and was later spotted in a liquor store employee’s washroom rinsing gasoline off her dog. When police questioned her they weren’t too pleased with her “spacey” answers and arrested her. She was then placed on 5150 hold pending a mental evaluation.

Since the All That star has been in the psychiatric hospital, her parents, Lynn and Rick have petitioned the court for temporary conservatorship over Amanda to help their daughter to manage her personal and financial dealings.

Court documents have allegedly come to light that say Amanda has some, “profound issues with her body image” and that she is “obsessed with the fact that she (and others) are ugly.” This “ugly” trend has been present in a lot of Bynes’ tweets on Twitter where she calls anyone she doesn’t like ugly on the social microblogging website.

Rick and Lynn Bynes have told the court that they believe that daughter Amanda has spent over $1 million of her $4 million in a surprisingly short period of time. And according to Perez Hilton, Amanda won’t admit to having a mental illness so it looks like she may be in that hospital for a bit longer.

Apparently, one reason that the doctors have turned down Amanda’s request to leave is that her refusal to accept her condition could mean that she stops taking the medication that is currently helping her. It is starting to look as though Amanda Bynes still has a long way to go before she makes a complete recovery.
