LIfe must be good for Justin Timberlake when he can take something like heartache and turn it into a new hit single called TKO.
This singer/actor has always been known to push the envelope. What is nice about him is he does it in a creative way. He never gets too down and dirty and always leaves his fans wanting more.
Songwriting is a great escape for songwriters when they are heartbroken. As a matter of fact, it is also a nice hit single-maker. Nothing makes for a better song than the subject of heartache.
On a side note, the next time you are heartbroken, try picking up a pen and writing a story, a poem, or a song about your loss. You’ll see how good it will feel to vent out your sad feelings and create art at the same time.
Some of Justin’s past singles such as Cry Me A River and What Goes Around…Comes Around that spoke about lost love were some of his biggest chart-toppers.
Recently, Justin relentlessly had everyone impatiently waiting for the new track to be dropped after he posted several videos and photos about it.
In August, he posted an Instagram video showing the full track list in his notebook. And on September 16, he tweeted a reply to fan, ‘@Rojjy,’ who asked: “Can you release another song before the album drops?” To which ‘@jtimberlake,’ responded with: “#youneverknow.” He followed these up with other posts such as videos of recording sessions with Timbaland.
TKO is the second single after Take Back The Night, the first single of Part 2 of his latest album The 20/20 Experience.
TKO is a seven-minute track produced by Timbaland. Most of us can relate to TImberlake and Timbaland’s lyrics. The song is all about a former love that he thought he was over and how he wants her back after seeing her with another guy.
It starts with dark sounding synths and Timbaland repeating a chant. Then Timberlake’s smooth voice comes over the system, narrating his feelings about this lost love and how he doesn’t understand why he still has feelings for her – feelings he describes with the use of various boxing metaphors.
He sings in the chorus, “I’m out for the count, yea girl you knock-out me out, with a TKO.” Then the song then breaks into hard-hitting electronica with unique sounds and beat-boxing that only the “Timber/Timba” collaboration can achieve.
With this album, Justin and his label also experimented with a new way of releasing double albums. He released The 20/20 Experience – Part 1 earlier this year on March 18, and Part 2 will be dropped on September 30 with songs that feature artists Drake and Jay-Z.
This two-pronged release strategy could very well pay off to keep music fresh in such a turbulent music industry.
“I wanted to release a double album, but then after speaking to my label, we thought it would be an interesting idea to see what it would be like to split up a double album and release it over the course of a year,” Justin said in Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.
Okay, enough with the talk, check out his hot new single TKO below and make sure to grab the second instalment of The 20/20 Experience for yourself at the end of September.
