Katy Perry’s Roar roared up the charts to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 list, bumping Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines to the number two position. Roar is Perry’s eighth song to hit number one. Will Roar and Perry’s upcoming album, Prism, cause people looking back at the MTV VMAs next year to think of more than suggestive sexual acts done with foam fingers?

On October 22, her new album, Prism, will be out in the stores.

The beginning of Katy’s video shows the pop songstress’s airplane crashing in a jungle. Her boyfriend quickly becomes Tiger Chow, and Perry has to try to survive on her own.

She not only survives, she thrives. Who needs the modern conveniences of a shower, when the nearest elephant will be only too glad to give you a shower with his trunk?

Katy has on a leopard-spotted bikini top (did she kill the leopard herself?) and a skirt made from leaves.

Roar, after being number two on the charts, has bumped off the reigning champ, Blurred Lines. Robin Thicke’s summer smash had been number one for twelve weeks.

In its first week alone, Roar sold over a half a million copies (557,000, to be exact). Week two  was a bit slower, with Roar selling 392,000, but remaining at the number two position. Roar this week had its best week yet, selling more than a million copies, an increase of 14 percent.

What other two songs by female singers have been downloaded over 400,000 times in  two weeks?

The two other songs that accomplished this feat were Born This Way by Lady Gaga and I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift. Perry and her friend Rihanna are the only two musicians who have had seven number one hits this decade.

The video of Roar will likely help keep the song in the number one position for several weeks to come, though Eminem’s song Berzerk, has soared to the number three spot, and might give Perry’s song a lot of competition in the near future.

On Thursday night, Katy, 28, gave a lucky audience of 100 journalists and insiders in the music industry the opportunity to hear 12  other songs from Prism The word is that they all sound great, and any of them might also soon be a hit on the radio, like her 2010 song, Teenage Dream.

Perry played songs like Birthday, which she described as being a tune that was like one Mariah Carey might have “put on he first album.” She called the song Unconditionally h=r favorite one, and stated she felt proud that she wrote it. Juicy J appears on her tune Dark Horse.

According to Perry about Prism and also performing show around the world:

I’m very excited to bring visuals to a lot of the songs and play them live.”

Some of the many people who served as producers on Prism include Bloodshy, Klas Ahlund, and Dr. Luke. Two of the songs are the emotional Double Rainbow and By the Grace of God.

There will be 13 tracks in total on Prism, though a deluxe version will contain 16 songs. On Thursday, Perry told the intimate gathering that Monday was the date Prism was due at her label, but some of the tracks still had yet to be mixed.

How many more number one hits will Prism yield?

Katy Perry’s performance of Roar at the MTV VMAs underneath the Brooklyn Bridge was one of the highlights of the night, though most people were talking at water coolers around the country about Miley Cyrus’ racy performance with Robin Thicke of Blurred Lines.

Perhaps, if Katy keeps getting smash hits off of Prism, The 2013 MTV VMAs will be looked back on for other reasons than suggestive sexual acts done with foam fingers, like the launching of Katy Perry’s Roar to its eventual number one status.
