After hearing the tragic news of Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s death, and now Julia Roberts’s half-sister, both bizarrely passing away in bathrooms, one may wonder why so many celebrities have been so unfortunate as to die in that room of the house. No one knows for sure, but here is a list of eight well-known people who have been known to die in that very place.
– Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead by police in his New York City apartment. The NYPD had apparently discovered Hoffman in his bathroom with a syringe still in his arm. There were over seventy bags of heroin found on the scene, allegedly. Hoffman was 46 years old.
– Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977 of a drug overdose. The king of rock was discovered by his girlfriend Ginger Alden on the bathroom floor of his Memphis mansion where he had been lying in his own vomit after falling off of the toilet.
– Whitney Houston died just hours before she was expected to attend a pre-Grammy awards party. Houston’s body was found inside her Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel. She was found with prescription drugs surrounding the bathtub which she had overdosed in. She was 48-years-old.
– Julia Roberts half-sister Nancy Motes was found dead this past Sunday in a bathtub at a Los Angeles home where she had reportedly been pet-sitting. Apparently, officers had found some evidence of drug use just as in the Hoffman case. She was also found dead in the bathroom and joins the group of 8 with the other unfortunate celebrities. She was found by her fiancé John Dilbeck. Reports came in this week stating that Roberts mourns deeply for the loss of her beloved half-sister.
– Brittany Murphy was apparently found dead in the shower by her mother. The autopsy report showed Murphy’s death to be caused by pneumonia and a multitude of prescription drugs.
– Judy Garland died in 1969 of an overdose of sedatives. Her body was found in the bathroom of a home she had been renting in Chelsea, London. It may be that Garland’s addiction to prescription drugs started when she was only a child. Garland and her co-stars were allegedly given amphetamines to lose weight and stay focused during productions. Garland passed away at age 47.
– Jim Morrison’s death remained a mystery for some time. The cause of his death is was unknown until Sam Bernett, a former New York Times journalist wrote a book about how the singer was actually found dead slumped over on the toilet in a bar. Bernett says Morrison’s body was later dumped into the bathtub of his Paris apartment by two heroin dealers trying to cover up his death.
– Orville Redenbacher died on September 19, 1995. He was 88 years old. Redenbacher had reportedly passed away of a heart attack and then drowned while in his bathtub/Jacuzzi of his California condo.
The family of Julia Roberts’ half-sister Motes are reportedly devastated at the loss of her unfortunate passing. The official coroner’s report has yet to have come to the surface to explain whether or not Motes died of a drug overdose. People now know that Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death was obviously due to a heroin overdose. Like these 8 people that have passed away and other celebrity deaths that occur in bathrooms, drug use seems to play a part all too often.
