The highly anticipated Sharknado 2: The Second One finally has a premiere date. Sharknado 2: The Second One is coming to the Syfy network this July. The sequel to the massively popular hit from last year features the return of stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid.
While the exact plot details of Sharknado 2: The Second One remain unwraps, the upcoming sequel is rumored to be set in New York City when a freak weather pattern of a tornado of sharks unleashes its furious fury upon the population and most iconic landmarks of the city. The film will once again follow Ian Ziering’s Fin and Tara Reid’s April as they desperately attempt to escape the Big Apple from certain destruction. Sharknado 2: The Second One also features an eclectic cast of supporting players including comedians Andy Dick and Judah Friedlander, tabloid reporter Perez Hilton, former WWE wrestler Kurt Angle, reality star Kelly Osbourne, ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, Kill Bill star Vivica A. Fox and Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath.
Sharknado 2: The Second One has Anthony C. Ferrante returning to the director’s chair. Ferrante has directed two feature films for the mockbuster production company The Asylum so far in his career. His first for the production company was the straight-to-video title Hansel And Gretel, released in the early months of 2013 in hopes of capitalizing off of the big screen adventure horror film starring Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Ferrante followed-up Hansel And Gretel with the massively popular Sharknado starring Ziering and Reid. Ferrante’s Sharknado 2: The Second One is coming to the Syfy network on Wednesday, July 30th.
The first Sharknado film was a surprise success when the made-for-television disaster movie aired last July. In the B-movie, a freak hurricane hit Los Angeles causing man-eating sharks to be snatched up by the storm. The unnatural disaster unleashed its shark-invested water tornados on the City of Angels while surfer and bar-owner Fin sets out to rescue his estranged wife April and teenage daughter Claudia. Sharknado was written by Asylum veteran Thunder Levin, the writer’s other credits include AE: Apocalypse Earth, the Battleship clone American Warships as well as Mutant Vampire Zombies From The Hood!
The original Sharknado premiered to over 1.37 million people back on July 11th, 2013. The film prompted several celebrities to live tweet the event, making the B-movie the hot water cooler topic the following day. The Syfy network reran Sharknado on July 18th, 2013 and drew in over 1.89 million viewers. The film’s third airing became Syfy’s most watched original film in the network’s history, drawing in over 2.1 million viewers. The film was even well received by critics as it currently sits at 82% on the review site rottentomatoes.com with most stating that Sharknado hits the perfect note of being so bad that it is good. Sharknado had a limited theatrical release but failed to manage much success despite the hype and popularity surrounding the film on Twitter. Sharknado was barely able to gross two hundred thousand at the box office.
Sharknado 2: The Second One is coming this July 30th to the Syfy network. The highly anticipated made-for-television disaster B-movie sequel is set to air at 9/8c.
