For years Hilary Duff played the character Lizzie McGuire on the Disney Channel, but in a recent interview she opened up about no longer being that young girl anymore. It is time for people to see her as the adult that she now is, instead of being shocked when she talks about her family and estranged husband.
Many people still view her as the young character that she used to play. It is a difficulty that many child stars face, especially those who create such an iconic role model on the screen and when they have not been on the screen for a long period of time. Lizzie McGuire was the independent and powerful young role, and such a positive role model for girls. With that in mind, it is understandable that people still view Duff as that young, positive influence. However, she made it clear that she no longer plays with Barbies and does not wear the retainer that she used to.
Despite playing such a positive role on screen, whether on TV or in movies, she has struggled with growing up. It is time for people to listen to her struggles, and take some inspiration from her again. She struggled with the things people would say about her online and in magazines, but is now happy with the person she has become. She and her family know the person she is now, and that is all that matters.
Not only do people expect her to still be Lizzie McGuire, which Duff definitely no longer is, they expect her to be perfect. It is an issue that many celebrities go through. They are constantly in the public eye, and become people that others look up to. Fans do not expect their favorite celebrities to be caught partying, doing drugs or struggling with relationships. It ruins the glamorous dream of Hollywood. However, Duff has made it clear that she is only human, and would like people to remember that the next time she makes a mistake.
She has definitely had a lot thrown her way lately. Most recently the news has been about her marriage, and the struggles that she has with her husband Mike Comrie. Many wonder whether they have split up, or if they are trying to remain together if only for the sake of their two-year-old son, Luca.
The 26-year-old does not spend a lot of time in the spotlight, although she will likely be back in it very soon. Her focus is going to be her next studio album, one that fans have been waiting for five years for, along with her son. Will she pull a Miley Cyrus with a raunchy album that makes it clear she is all grown up? Chances are slim, but very little has been shared about her upcoming music and any other plans that she may have.
One thing is for certain, she is no longer the child star that she once was. She is grown up, married (for now) and has a son of her own. It is time for fans to see that Duff is no longer Lizzie McGuire or perfect, but is still a positive role model for her fans.
