Mortal Kombat X to Debut Next Week at E3 [Video]

Mortal Kombat X

NetherRealm Studios is the game studio responsible for the Mortal Kombat (9) reboot in 2011, they also worked on Injustice: Gods Among Us. If the appeal of these games is alluring in any sense, the new Mortal Kombat X trailer is something to see. In eight days time, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will begin, at which point fans can expect more details about the upcoming fighter. The new trailer features a classic battle between Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Be warned, it is brutal, if you do not want to see graphic violence do not watch.

Co-creator Ed Boon has confirmed via twitter that the next game in the series will indeed be Mortal Kombat X. He also said that the team is looking to “Utilize the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet.” Details have not yet emerged, but Boon also said that fans can expect new modes, characters, and graphics engine.

The Mortal Kombat series has been running since 1992 and changed a lot over the years. However, the most core principles of the series are still what propels it. Challenging Killer Instinct for the title of Most Brutal Next-Gen Fighter, Mortal Kombat X already looks like it is continuing the series as the founders see fit. The power of the next generation of gaming consoles seems to be the foundation for the emphasis of this game. High-end graphics with massive capability make the new trailer look as though NetherRealm Studios have learned from their past few years of making quality fighting games. How exactly they are planing to go about these different fighting styles and variations has yet to be seen. Hopefully such details will emerge at E3 in eight days.

So far it is uncertain which characters will appear in the next fight. Scorpion and Sub-Zero will obviously be included, but no others have been confirmed yet. Many of the other staples are expected, such as: Raiden, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Ermac, Nightwolf, the list goes on. Downloadable characters from the last Mortal Kombat are less likely, sorry Freddy Krueger. What kind of new characters can be expected? Will we see the revival of a weapon system? Will weapons be found in battles? Can they be stolen or created? Will there still be team battles? Have downloadable characters been discussed yet? Will anyone from Injustice make an appearance? Many questions still remain.

The last Mortal Kombat game released in 2011, this new game, Mortal Kombat X (10) looks like it will release in 2015, but beyond that a specific date has yet to be announced. The title will be coming to most newer consoles, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC. E3 is right around the corner and stands as the opportunity for NetherRealm (as well as many others) to show what they have. This year E3 is slammed with possibility and for the first time will be hosting a, a Super Smash Bros. tournament with professional players and commentators. E3 takes place from June 10-12.
