The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon had great guests this Monday, ones like Anne Hathaway (Interstellar), actor Gael García Bernal (Rosewater), San Francisco Giants World Series baseball pitcher Madison Bumgarner. Fallon talked with Anne Hathaway about several subjects, including parties and her latest movie out on Friday, Interstellar! The musical guest was the amazing singer from Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks!
Jimmy Fallon warmly welcomed his studio audience and then said “Here’s what people are talking about,” as he launched into his monologue. “Yesterday was the New York City Marathon. Guys on the street didn’t have time to finish their cat-calls. It was fast. Tomorrow, it’s the mid-term elections, and if you haven’t already decided, here’s some nice, clean commercials for you to hear,” Fallon said (paraphrased) and then showed some humorous actual political commercials.
“Last night, daredevil Nik Wallenda walked on a tightrope 500 feet between two Chicago skyscrapers. Then he did an even more dangerous feat — he walked on the ground.”
“Starbucks has announced that they would introduce a delivery service through their new app. It should be here any moment,” Fallon said. The delivery woman was a woman who supposedly used to be the camera woman on the Tonight Show. She was “fired” for cursing too much. Fallon told her she got his order wrong, and she started cursing at him and yelling. She also flipped him off a couple of times.
The Roots played Jimmy Fallon to his desk. Fallon said that “U2 is coming back Monday, November 17, for an entire week!” He said later this week, “Bette Midler” will be on. Also, on Friday, Jay Leno will be on. Tonight, Fallon said, Anne Hathaway, actor Gael García Bernal, baseball player Madison Bumgarner and Stevie Nicks would be the guests.
Then, Jimmy Fallon read off some actual kid’s notes to him. One was about Steve Higgins, the announcer, and the kid said he wanted to see Higgins host the Tonight Show.
Another student, a girl called Winnie, hated it when other kids called her “Winnie the Pooh.”She said that even her teacher sometimes would say “The pooh slides on you.”
Another kid said “You could talk funnier so you can laugh wild and the audience will enjoy your funniest laugh. And, you could grow a mustache.” Jimmy Fallon then put on a fake mustache and talked in a funny voice, and the Tonight Show went to a commercial break.
Actress Anne Hathaway was Fallon’s first guest. He asked her about Anne’s spending time with her family at a PJs and Pigskins party, where they would just lay around in their pajamas all day watching football on TV.
Anne then related a story to Jimmy Fallon about going to a party at Matthew McConaughey’s house, where everyone was making speeches. She was going to read the first line of her speech, but the teleprompter broke. “I just decided to wing it, and tell a story,” she said. Fallon asked her if she was embarrassed, and Anne said “Yes,” but she had been through a lot of embarrassing things, so it was maybe a four on a scale of 1 to 10.
Another time, she showed up one day late to a party at McConaughey’s house. She said “It was the second time I got the date wrong.” She said that Matthew invited her and her husband in, though, and got them drunk.
Jimmy Fallon then tried to get her back on the subject of her new movie, Interstellar. “There were beautiful scenes of space,” Fallon said. “Gorgeous, really loud when the rocket takes off — well done film.” Fallon then showed a video clip from the movie, with Matthew McConaughey in it. The flick looks like it will be fantastic — it opens on Friday. The Tonight Show went to a commercial break.
When the Tonight Show returned, Jimmy Fallon introduced his second guest of the show, Gael García Bernal, who is starring in Rosewater, opening November 14. “”You actually lived in New York when you were 15, right?”
Gael talked about coming there when he was younger, and said “It was exciting.” He realized, though, “that you had to be over 21 to get into bars.”
Jimmy Fallon mentioned to him that they had done research and found out that his first job was on a Mexican soap opera.
“Yes, I cried so much,” he said. Fallon then showed a clip from the soap opera. Gael was just a young boy in the clip. Rosewater — let’s get into this film. Directed and written by Jon Stewart,” Fallon said.
“Yes, and he edited it. We filmed it in August during Ramadan,” Gael said. He said it was about an actual person, held in jail for 100 days. The Iraquis thought the character Gael plays in Rosewater was a spy, despite his protests about Jon Stewart — who is also mixed up in the whole mess — being a comedian, not at all a spy. It is difficult to argue with some people, though, as he found out.
The third guest on the Tonight Show was San Francisco Giant pitcher and MVP, Madison Bumgarner. He had brought the World Series trophy with him to show everyone. Fallon mentioned he had a truck, and Madison said “How big of a truck?”
“Big enough,” Fallon replied.
Jimmy Fallon asked him what it was like to pitch in the World Series. He mentioned it was kind of intimidating, because everybody was booing him, as it was an away game in Kansas. But, he settled in and pitched an excellent game. “It’s been an unbelievable ride so far,” he said.
Jimmy mentioned to him all kinds of stats and records that Bumgarner had broken. He said that fans nicknamed him “Mad Bum.” He brought some underwear for Fallon to wear, a pair that was black and said “Mad Bum” on it. Fallon put them on over his suit pants. Then, he said that Stevie Nicks would be on next.
Jimmy Fallon introduced Stevie Nicks, who is currently on tour with Fleetwood Mac. She sang one of her latest songs, Lady, off of her solo album 24 Carat Gold. Stevie has an amazing, very cool voice. When she sings Landslide, it is kind of magical. She was dressed in a black dress, looking very classy and regal. She has a dreamy quality to her voice. Lady sounded pretty amazing. Stevie Nicks still has one of the best singing voices of any rock female singer around.
Tonight’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was a terrific way to start off the work week. Fallon usually has just two guests on the show, and then a musical guest; but, tonight he had three, besides his musical guest Stevie Nicks. Actress Anne Hathaway is always entertaining, and tonight she talked about her latest movie, Interstellar, and a few party mishaps. Then, actor Gael García Bernal, who is one of the stars of Jon Stewart’s movie, Rosewater, was the second guest. The third guest was San Francisco Giants pitcher and World Series MVP, Madison Bumgarner. Please check out tomorrow’s Tonight Show, also, then come back here to read the recap!
