On Monday October 29th, 2012 at approximately 2:53 p.m., The LVMPD Communications Center received 9-1-1 calls from citizens reporting that a person had been shot at the 2400 block of East Desert Inn Road. When officers arrived, they found a male adult victim who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his right hand. The victim stated the attack was from a white or Hispanic male that he did not know. The victim was transported by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital Trauma Center. Metro officers located a person nearby who matched the description given by the victim and other witnesses. The officers gave commands to the suspect who instead of obeying produced a handgun from the area of his waistband. When the subject brandished the gun, officers shot their firearms at the suspect in order to stop his actions. The suspect fell to the pavement while dropping the gun. On- scene medical personnel pronounced the subject deceased at the location. The
gun the suspect brandished was recovered next to his body. No officers were injured
during this incident. The name of the deceased suspect and the exact cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing. The officers involved have been placed on routine paid administrative leave. Per LVMPD policy the names of those officers involved in the officer involved shooting will be released after 48 hours.
