2013 Oscar Predictions

By Albert Angulo

Here’s The Guardian Express take on the best picture category. The category has had a considerable and controversial shake up rule-wise last year. Depending on how many #1 votes each film receives on voters’ ballots, anywhere from 5 to 10 nominees could wind up in the category, making it very difficult to predict. Currently, our guess is that it’s going to be a full 9,. It’s just too good a year, and it seems like the #1 votes could very well be spread out to the maximum

“Les Miserables”
“Life of Pi”
“The Master”
“Silver Linings Playbook”

and if there was another one :
“flight “

Best Actor :
It probably doesn’t matter who else gets nominated in this typically crowded field, Daniel Day-Lewis will win his third Oscar for his predictably immaculate portrayal of the nation’s 16th president . Now let’s just hope the method man DDL shows up at the Oscars, in character and costume, to accept the award. That way there’d actually be some semblance of surprise here.

Bradley Cooper, “Silver Linings Playbook”
Daniel Day-Lewis, “Lincoln”
Hugh Jackman, “Les Miserables”
Joaquin Phoenix, “The Master”
Denzel Washington, “Flight”
Other Contenders:
John Hawkes, “The Sessions”
Anthony Hopkins, “Hitchcock”
Christoph Waltz, “Django Unchained”

Best Actress :
Jennifer Lawrence “Silver Linings Playbook”
Naomi Watts “The Impossible”
Jessica Chastain “Zero Dark Thirty”
Marion Cotillard “Rust and Bone”
Emmanuelle Riva “Amour”
Possible spoilers :
Marion Cotillard “Rust and Bone”
Helen Mirren “Hitchcock”
and a long shot could be my personal favorite :
Keira Knightley ” Anna Karenina”
