Yoko Ono, John Lennon’s wife, tweeted President Obama Wednesday. In the tweet she sent a picture of what were said to be John Lennon’s bloody eyeglasses after he was shot and killed. She was lobbying for gun control.
President Obama forwarded the tweet to his 28 million followers.
The picture of the glasses had script that read:
“Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980.”
Mark David Chapman killed Lennon outside of the entrance to the apartment he and Yoko shared.
The President’s twitter account is managed by Organizing for Action, the political group formed from the president’s re-election campaign organization. It has been very active since the President called for action on gun control.
A bill was introduced Thursday by Senator Harry Reid, but it lacked one of the President’s requirements, a ban on assault rifles.
