Susan Rice removed her name from consideration for Secretary of State when she was harassed by Republicans. President Obama is now considering her for his National Security Adviser, a position that has no Senate confirmation requirement. This move would potentially give President Obama the last word on the embattled diplomat.
The 48 year old Ms. Rice, and first black woman to become United States Ambassador to the United Nations, was President Obama’s first choice as the Nation’s chief diplomat. She was his early foreign policy advisor during the 2008 election. When she withdrew, the nomination was given to Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts.
