The Voice back for Season 4 on March 25, but if this sneak peek clip from the blind auditions is any indication of the talent level this spring, we are definitely excited. In hopes to gin up excitement for new coaches Usher and Shakira, NBC screened the first two hours of The Voice today for journalists before the fourth season premieres on March 25. As expected, the show was quick to trumpet the talents of his newest additions– they’re multiple Grammy winners and international icons, y’all!
The network said Monday the show will double to two hours on April 30 and May 7 to showcase pivotal rounds in the singing competition.
This season sees Usher and Shakira taking over for Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, who are taking
the season off to focus on their music. Both have said they will be back; Usher and Shakira join returning coaches Adam Levineand Blake Shelton. The show’s season finale will be on June 18th.
28-year-old Judith Hill takes the stage she gets the coveted four-chair turn for her rendition of Christina Aguilera’s “What a Girl Wants.”
Shakira, meanwhile, is less like a diva and more of a delight — her precious accent making her all the more winsome, especially when she starts to talk trash by calling Levine’s season one win “beginner’s luck.” It can’t be easy to dodge playful barbs from Shelton and Levine
The Voice is an American reality talent show on the NBC television network. Based on the reality singing competition The Voice of Holland, the series was created by Dutch television producer John de Mo and is executive produced by Mark Burnett. It is part of an international series. The show’s first season premiered on April 26, 2011 and ended on June 29, 2011, with Javier Colon being the show’s first season’s winner. The Voice proved to be a hit for NBC. The second season premiered February 5, 2012, immediately following NBC’s broadcast of Super Bowl XLVI, and ended on May 8, 2012, with Jermaine Paul declared the winner.
The series consists of three phases: a blind audition, a battle phase, and live performance shows. Four judges/coaches, all noteworthy recording artists, choose teams of contestants through a blind audition process. Each judge has the length of the audition’s performance.
In a first for a music competition series, NBC and Universal Republic Records offered fans of the show the ability to vote for their favorite artists by purchasing the studio versions of the songs that they perform on the live show each week via the iTunes Store. Alternative methods of voting can be done through toll-free phone calls and through online votes via NBC.com. Each method is limited to 10 votes per user.
“The Voice” begins its new season at 8 p.m. EDT on Monday, March 25, with another two-hour episode. NBC, struggling in the ratings, is counting on the show to provide a boost.
