iPad Theft Leads to Death of Juvenile

Victim Struck and Killed by Fleeing Suspect Vehicle On May 16, 2013 at approximately 4:12 p.m. LVMPD patrol officers were dispatched to the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Scholl Drive to investigate a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian. Arriving officers determined the accident was the result of the theft of an I-PAD from a juvenile victim by an adult.

An investigation initiated by LVMPD Robbery Detectives determined the victim was walking on the South side of Charleston Boulevard near the intersection of Scholl Drive carrying an I-PAD when a white vehicle
stopped nearby, and a white male adult exited the passenger side of the vehicle and approached the victim.

The suspect attempted to steal the I-PAD from the juvenile, and drug the victim who appeared to be attempting to hold on to the I-PAD into the street and to the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect re-entered the vehicle with the juvenile still either holding on to the I-PAD or being held by the suspect.

The vehicle left the area driving Westbound on Charleston Boulevard with the juvenile victim still at the passenger door, possibly still attempting to retain the I-PAD. As the vehicle drove Westbound at a high rate of speed the victim fell and was struck by the fleeing suspect vehicle.

The victim, a teenage male, was transported to the UMC Trauma center where he died of his injuries. The LVMPD Homicide Section is now continuing this investigation.

The suspect vehicle in this crime is described as a white 2008 – 2010 Ford Explorer or Expedition equipped with factory running boards, tinted windows, and factory mag wheels. There were no license plates noted on the vehicle.
The suspect who was driving the vehicle is described as a black male adult in his mid-20’s with a medium build and a “fade” haircut, and possible “tattoo sleeves” on both arms. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and possibly wore a long chain necklace and pendant around his neck.

The suspect who exited the vehicle and accosted the victim is described as a white male adult in his late 20’s standing approximately 6 feet tall and weighing between 180-200 pounds with short blonde hair which was slicked back and shaved on the sides. He is also described as having a neatly trimmed ¼ – ½ inch beard running down his face from sideburn to sideburn. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and blue jeans.

Photographs of a person of interest and a vehicle of interest in this case accompany this release. The identity of the victim, and the exact cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing. Anyone who was in the area of the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Scholl Drive near the time when this event occurred and who may have observed either the crime of the suspects or suspect vehicle are urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers by phone at 385-5555 or on the internet at www.crimestoppersofnv.com
