Actor Justin Bartha, who plays Doug in all the Hangover films and will be reprising his role in The Hangover Part III, is engaged to Lia Smith it has been revealed today.
The 34 year-old actor proposed to his fitness-trainer girlfriend while they were vacationing in Big Sur this month according to Us Weekly.
Funnily enough, Justin’s character of David Sawyer on the recently cancelled television show The New Normal just got married on the show.
The magazine has said that Bartha “popped” the question at the Post Ranch Inn while he slipped an “unbelievable” engagement ring on Lia’s finger.
The magazine’s “source” who tipped them off to the momentous occasion also said, “They’re the cutest couple. She was completely surprised by the whole thing. The trip to Big Sur, the engagement, the ring, everything. So cute.”
The pair have been inseparable ever since they met at a Pilates session at the Los Angeles gym where Lia works as a fitness instructor. This will be Justin’s first time up the aisle. He was dating Asley Olsen, one half of the Mary Kate and Ashley super duo who were listed as among the richest women in the world. Justin broke up with Ashley in March 2011.
With the third instalment of the Hangover franchise opening on Thursday, it seems almost serendipitous that Bartha proposed just before the films opens. Hopefully, considering how things turn out for all the boys in these films, live will not imitate art and his relationship with Lia will not be put to the test.
While we are sure that Justin has nothing in common with the character of Doug, it is hoped that he doesn’t have friends who act like any of the fearful foursome in the film.
Justin’s representation have not confirmed or denied the news of his engagement and neither has Justin or Lia. For the time being, we will trust that the source who so helpfully informed US weekly about the romantic events at the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur wasn’t having a “hangover” moment and that we can get all the details from one of the couple.
Of course things could change but if they don’t the fabulously wealthy Ashley Olsen could decide to dig deep into her pocket book and just to show that there are no hard feelings, spring for a great night out for the girls or even contribute to Justin’s bachelor party.
But whoever foots the bill for his bachelor “do” we hope that his party isn’t quite so eventful as the one his character had in the first film.
The Hangover Part III costars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Ken Jeong who are all returning for the “final” episode of the franchise. Judging from the trailers, the guys will all be carrying on as normal for this second sequel in the series.
Before Justin walks up the aisle, whenever that will actually be, he will be in the Randall Miller film GBGB which, according to IMDb is a look at the New York City punk-rock scene and the venerable nightclub, CBGB.
