Mariah Carey Sings Swan Song to American Idol

Mariah Carey leaves idol

Mariah Carey, she of the naughty hashtag song, sings her American Idol “swan song” with the news that the singer is leaving the show.

American Idol judge Mariah Carey is leaving the television singing contest to go on a world tour next year. This announcement follows the news that her fellow longtime judge Randy Jackson is also leaving the judging panel and after the show started suffering a loss in the ratings war.

With the news that almuni Jennifer Hudson will be a judge on the upcoming season of American Idol and that the show’s creators are rumoured to want an all alumni judging panel with hints that they want Kelly Clarkson as one of the new judges, there really wasn’t room for Mariah to stay.

Carey is way too busy to run her own Twitter account so she had her public relations firm PMK BNC tweet to her fans; “@MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol.”

The public relations firm then went on to tweet that the singer is planning the tour to promote her most recent single #Beautiful with singer Miguel. Miguel told everyone last week that the # (hashtag) meant a rude, or at least impolite, word that rhymes with **uck.

Carey is very much in the early planning stage of the tour and there have not been any tour dates announced yet.

Mariah Carey, joined the judging panel with rapper Nicki Minaj; country singer Keith Urban and Randy Jackson, a music producer, for the show’s 12th season. It has been claimed that she earned a cool $18 million for her time on the show.

43 year-old Carey and Minaj gave the show’s fans a little something extra throughout their season together with their on-camera arguments and off-camera feuding. Carey said in January that she had hired extra security following threats that had been allegedly made against her by Minaj.

Fox network said in a statement, “Mariah Carey is a true global icon – one of the most accomplished artists on the planet – and we feel extremely fortunate that she was able to bring her wisdom and experience to the ‘American Idol’ contestants this season.”

But despite the star “pulling power” of the show’s judging panel the ratings continued to drop throughout the entire twelfth season. The show’s finale on May 16 this year was 14.2 million when the public tuned in to see powerful singer Candice Glover win the competition.

Despite rumours that all the judges were leaving, the only one who came forward and made his departure public was Randy Johnson. Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler both left the show in 2012 and programming chief Mike Darnell has left also.

But he has company with both Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey singing their swan song to the American Idol producers. They may have more company if Urban and Minaj announce their departure. Darnell leaves after making his mark on the show and being the one mostly responsible for its success. Now Mariah can focus on her career, her tour dates and her naughty hashtag song Beautiful with Miguel.
