Miley Cyrus isn’t just number one in Maxim’s list of the hottest babes of the year, she’s number one in the “swatter’s list” since she has been swatted not once, but twice, that’s two times for her and one more than all the other swatted folks out there.
In case you’ve been dozing and have missed all the kerfuffle about swatting, I’ll explain what it is. Although his sounds suspiciously like the United Kingdom fad of “happy slapping” which means to smack someone for the camera which, unsurprisingly, is not a whole lot of fun for the recipient, the two are not related.
For one thing, there is no physical violence involved and, for another, where the old “happy slap” could be done on anyone, swatting is done to the rich and well known.
For example, other swatting victims have included, Justin Timberlake, Selena Gomez, Anderson Cooper, Lamar Odom, and Khloé Kardashian Odom. Miley is, as we pointed out, the only one of this “illustrious” list to have been swatted twice.
But enough swat name dropping, let us explain what it is. Essentially it involves calling the police via the emergency 911 and giving the selected celebrity’s home address with the information that someone is either breaking in; there is a domestic incident, or gunshots, et al. The favourite appears to be the gunshot scenario. What better way to get the good old police department’s blood pressure rising and to insure a speedy response than reports of a shooting in a star’s home. You can get the picture, I’m sure.
Miley’s second swat came on Friday night after an apparent prankster placed a fake emergency call and gave Cyrus’s home address, E! News has confirmed.
The Los Angeles Police Department revealed to E! News that they responded to the call and found that there was no problem at the property, and the betrothed starlet wasn’t even at home at the time.
Other sources have said that the LAPD received the 9-1-1 call at around 8:55 PM last night from a female claiming to be calling from her closet and reporting shots fired in her home.
The number one Maxim sexiest gal got swatted back in August last year. Apparently her inclusion in the Maxim list brought her back to the attention of the swatters after almost nine months since her last “swat.”
Police have said that they will be treating all future “false alarm” calls as a serious breach of the law, which to be honest, already states that it is illegal to call 9-1-1 if it’s not an emergency or a false alarm as the time wasted by the already overly busy police department could prevent them from help someone who really needs it.
Of course like all fads, this will, like so many others, pass. It may take some time as the people who instigate these “harmless” pranks are not the sharpest tools in the shed, obviously. I know that the celebrities that have been targeted by the ridiculous stunt have all reacted differently. The Odom’s were swatted just six days ago and allegedly, Khloé got pretty cheesed off about.
We don’t know what Miley thinks about getting this idiotic treatment twice, but I imagine that she’ll let us all know soon enough. Because, as the old saying goes, any publicity is good publicity.
